Here Is a Woman Who Would Do Anything in This World

\\aJter D. Hickman SHE woman that never existed. That is what the husband of Elsie Doming discovered after being married to her for four years.

was a sexual and spiritual cheat. She was worse. She was a vampire who was not content in wrecking one man. She had to have a waiting list and she used them all up before she passed out of the picture. Am telling you about the married cheat in Martin Brown’s “Cobra,” now on view at English's. She is not a pleasant type to have about. She would wreck even a lion trainer

Jeanne De Me and I think that a lion trainer Would be the last guy to fall for a vampire. I can remember back many years When a certain famous actor showed on the stage what a vampire could do to a strong man. Brown in this play shows what this female robber can do to both strong and weak men. Elsie was no respecter of persons. She worked rapidly and carefully. She got what she wanted and plenty of l. but more than the vampire paid the bill. That is enough to know of the Btory of “Cobra,” because to know more would rob you of much of the real theater and suspense that it has. “Cbra,” is sensational and successful theater. It is cruel but dramatic, harsh but real. If you fear women that cheat mentally and

physically then stear clear of "Cobra,” but if you love heavily charged theater then do not pass up this show. The cast has everything. Although Jeanne De Me has little to do yet she registers with such ease that one forgets that she does not play the dominant role. Margaret Knight as Elsie, the woman who never existed, is wonderful in every scene, especially in the first act when she is the college town vampire and then in the second act when she is the big town married cheater. Here is a fine theater and at times great acting. The husband who fs cheated is played by George LeGuerre. Here is an actor who can blend a temperamental attitude toward a natural characterization. Here is honest Work. Mighty fine and real. A man can love unwisely, but honestly and that was the trouble with Tony Doming. Walter Gilbert rose to great natural heights as Jack Hace, who tried to be fair, but who always acted sexually overcharged when he was with women. Have only the highest praise for Kathryn Givney as Judith Drake, an honest woman who recognized a snake when she saw one. I enjoyed “Cobra” as theater of the dramatic school. If you love dramatic theater do not be afraid of "Cobra.” At English's today and Saturday, •I-!- -ILOOKING OVER NEW PALACE SHOW Have heard “Sol Mio” many times and with many variations, but Nick Verga of Nick and Gladys at the Palace this week gave an altogether new version of this iamoua old Italian air. qualities Verga stands out as the bent fun maker. “Music Land,” names an orchestra of seven girls that have appeared

here before. This orchestra needs an altogether new program. They need new music, new solos and new specialty numbers. With the equipment this orchestra has it seems as if they would be able tq put out a crack musical program, as it is they have depended upon some popular pieces that were in vogue some time ago and which have sine j passed out of the

public’s favor. “The Co-eds” a group of four men and two women have an act that runs to tap dancing, and some of it is good. Mischief Fernette takes the honors *tLs a dancer and her number “I long to be a vampire” was easily the best thing of the act. Maxon and Morris have an act that is somewhat original in its make-up. They take the parts of marrionetts from behind a screen that hides all but their faces. Hallen and Day have a rather "so-so” act consisting of some songs chatter and dancing.
