Football Coach to Go on Air

lit' NFA Service DENVER, Colo., Kept. 21.—The opening of the football season this fall will see inauguration of a unique system of coaching. Radio will be the means. The first station in the country to adopt this method of coaching is KOA at Denver. From this station, three times a week, Tom McNamara, coach and gridiron star, is scheduled for ten-minute lessons on football. The lessons will continue throughout the season. They will be given every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at. 8 p. m. (Mountain time). McNamara, who is head coach at Regis College, Denver, was a star backfield player at Ford ham University. lie was on the coaching and scouting staff of Pennsylvania University for four years. “To help listeners understand the basic principles of football—the of-

sense and defense —is my aim as radio coach for KOA,” says McNamara. "In addition I hope to explain in simple language the fundamental physical movements which are necessary if one is to play the game scientifically.” CHIMNEY SWEEPS OBJECT The chimney sweeps of Berlin, Germany, have protested vigorously against radio antennae on roofs, declaring they prevent their doing their work properly. Asa result a city ordinance has been passed to the effect that all radio equipment within the city limits must come down. WORTH KNOWING An insulated wire will pick up the broadcast programs just as easily as a bare wire, as the waves penetrate the covering without the least difficulty. If the iead-in is insulated it will act as a part of the aerial. TO DRY TUNING COILS Moisture collecting in the insulation of the tuning coils will cause weak signals and broad tuning. A good drying out in the sunlight or by placing the set near a stove or radiator will remedy the trouble.

Freeman H. Talbot, KOA program announcer and studio director. has won a wide reputation for the excellent studio programs which are broadcast from KOA. Radio, says Talbot, is rapidly stimulating a universal understanding and sympathy.
The popular Balkite Battery Charger is entirely noiseless and can be used while the set is in operation. Balkite U B” II was the outstanding development in radio last year. It replaces “B” batteries entirely and supplies plate current from the light socket. We now announce the Balkite Trickle Charger at $lO. This low-rate charger is especially adapted to use with sets of relatively low “A” current requirements—any dry cell set and storage battery sets with few tubes. We also announce the new Balkite “B” at $35, specially designed to serve sets of six tubes and less, and to fit in your present “B” battery compartment. Noiseless—No bu lbs—Permanent All Balkite Radio Power Units are based on the same principle. All are entirely noiseless in operation. They have no moving parts, no bulbs, and nothing to adjust, break or get out of order. E*ch is a permanent piece of equipment wirl. nothing tc wear out or replace. They require no other attention than the infrequent addition of water. They do not interfere with your set or your neighbor’s. The,r current consumption is remarkably low. An “A” battery, a Balkite Charger and a Balkite “B” constitute a complete trouble-free radio power equipment, one that is economical, simple and unfailing in operation and eliminates the possibility ol run-down batteries. Read the specific applications of the four units. Whatever type of set you own, Balkite Radio Power Units will serve it. Sold by radio dealers everywhere. MATCHING TUBES Unless you have a Superheterodyne there is email necessity for matching tubes as first-class ones have similar constants. In the Super, different tubes can be tried in the sockets by juggling until the right combination is found.
