Dear Fat Girls! This is not a fairy story although it sounds like one but it s a true up-to-date record of a miracle of science. Once upon a time I was fat —very fat at least 50 pounds too much, made me look old and unattractive—-No friends for me —no love—no partie: —no smart clothes! Day after day only brought on heartaches and disappointments, also I suffered with headaches, pains in my back and limbs, puffing—and a constant dreadful tried feeling—Most of my time 1 spent home rather than appear ridiculous in clothes that never could fit me and feci that people looked at me with pitiful glances —I certainly know what it is to h*V; been a wall flower! Well girls, today all that is changed—thanks to SAN-GRI-NA, the discovery of a French physician, T transformed myself into a different woman now I weigh 130 pounds. I am well —healthy—don’t know what headaches and puffing means • —I look ten years younger and can go into any shop and buy a smart ready made model and look the part

LETTER FROM SALLY ATHERTON TO LESLIE PRESCOTT —CONTINUED. "Do you know, Sally, dear,” Paula continued, "I am sometimes like the old woman In the nursery tale: 'I wonder if I be I." And I should think she would wonder, Leslie. Os all the moving picture actresses in Los Angeles, she is the most popular. I have never known a man to meet her who was not at her feet. Even Mr. Sartoris, who Is supposed to be immune, was very devoted to her, and promised that on his return he would stop off for a long stay. IVhile I do not think she has any intention of marrying, yet 1 am sur§ that at times she thinks very seriously of what s/ie will do when she leaves the screen. You know, a girl's life on the screen is not very long. The camera hunts out with unrelenting ferocity the first little wrinkle around the eyes, the first little sag to a fair, rounded cheek, anr. then, unless one is satisfied to play mothers and old women, who has up to this time played young girls and sweethearts, one’s regime in the silver screen is over. This looks to me a long way off in Paula's case—you see I became intimate enough with her to call her Paula, and for her to call me Sally, during ReVs tragic illness and death —I think she is more beautiful than ever. Perhaps it is because I know her better. I always have a feeling that behind her smile there lurks a pathetic tragedy that is ever with her. I have never known any one who was so fond of children, and yet she has refused to responsibility of Bee's child. I believe she refused this because she was afraid that It would throw her into an intimacy with Dick Summers that would be uncomfortable unless it led to some thing nearer and dearer. I am sure she hasn't the slightest idea of marrying him, who will prohably ask her very soon to marry him. Dick has perked up a lot since Bee's death, and you can hardly blame him after all. I was very fond

of Bee, but during the last year of her life I am sure she was not herself at all. I think she was horribly jealous, especially after she became ugly and shapeless. Just before her baby was born. Do you know. dear. 1 believe she punished herself for her jealousy of Paula, by making it possible for Dick and Paula to be together a great deal, if she should accept tHe care of her child. You know Bee had that kind of disposition which made her absolutely merciless with herself, as far as human traits were concerned. I'tn glad, Leslie, that I'm not so awfully good. I may not he sure of a reward in Heaven, but I certainly shall make sure of rewarding niyself for the monotony of living as often as I can, with a little joy and happiness. Paula Perrier thinks she Is coming east this fall. In fact, she spoke of taking a long vacation, and trpvelnig abroad for four or five months. She was kind enough to ask me to go with her, hut I told her I could’i t do that, because a life of luxury and ease was too great and too insidious a temptation for me; and besides, it was only through hard work that 1 could temper this more or less cattish disposition of mine. She laughed. Leslie, hut you who know me well know it is very true nf your friend. SALLY, (Copyright. 1025, NEA Service. Inc.) NEXT—Letter from Melville Sartoris to Leslie Prescott.
