It’s Easy to Become Spirit Wizard if You Have Money
Several Dollars and a Desire Will Make You a Medium. Note—This Is the fourteenth article of a eerie# by Virginia Swain, reporter for NEA Service and The Indianapolis Time*, relating her experience* while ■pending five weeks incognito at a medium's camp at Chesterfield, Ind. By Virginia Swain NEA. Service Writer Cr— -| HESTERFIELD. Ind., Sept. 10.—If you want to become a ■ medium nothing is easier. Chesterfield promises to initiate the aspirant to all the mysteries of mediurnship. so that he too can earn a modest living at the game. Nearly everyone, say the spiritualists, is endowed with some phase of mediurnship, though these powers too often remain latent. And Chesterfield is "just the place to develop these gifts, under the tutelage of the finest mediums in America." Embryonic Mediums This is o le of the strongest sell-, 4 ng points the Chesterfield potentates have for their’camp. Embryonic trumpet mediums, trance mediums and crystal gazers are as thick in the grove as the spirits that jump unexpectedly upon snapshot films. a\a w/m i::.: Mrs. Mattie Nichols many a thin lady, walking with eyes uplifted to the skies and tin trumpet carried reverently in arms. Somber-eyed youths sit under the trees, communing with Indian spooks or busily engrossed in the business of seeing things. The greeting from one Chesterfieldian to another is not, “How do you do?” or “This is nice weather," but “How is your mediurnship today?" or "Are you unfolding properly?" .For the benefit of "unfolding" mediums, Chesterfield magnani-
mously maintains a trumpet shop upon 'the grounds, where for only three dollars one may buy the best aluminum horn on the market, for BO cents the finest luminous band for the horn, and for $5, $7 or $lO varying sizes of crystals which shall reveal past and future, suitable investments, princes charming, foreign travels and cures for warts. But it Is not enough to buy a trumpet. The next step is to have it “magnetized.” This is done by sitting in the trumpet circle of Mrs. Mattie Nichols or Mrs. Anna Thronsden, or some of the other mediums, with the new trumpet exposed to the "forces” of the medium’s guide. I shall not soon forget the excitement that broke during a Thronsden circle, when a young Greek aspirant

for mediurnship shouted, “Wow! My trumpet she is up!” Sailing Trumpet By the luminous band, which somehow seemed more like a real ghost light than a mere band of phosphorous paint, we could see that indeed “she was up,” and sailing about the room in widening circles around the table at which Mrs. Thronsden sat. This was the first sign of the ap proach of full development in the trumpet phase, the young Greek was informed. His joy was pathetic. "For two years I try that trumpet at home and she never say a word.” he cried to me as we left the circle, “but now she is coming, she Is coming.” In order to develop for any phase
