WOMAN SCARES MAN IN KITCHEN ficers Investigate Many Thefts. Mrs. Marie Engle, 570 N. Tacoma Ave., walked into the kitchen of her home and faced a burglar who was ransacking with a flashlight Thursday night. When he saw her he ran. Nothing was missing, she told police. Mrs. Louise Barnett, 4238 College Ave., returned home after a vacation and found a diamond pin valued at $75 had been taken. Mrs. "Walter Gibbs, 808 E. St. Clair St., found her home entered and purse and $45 taken. ■ Plumbing fixtures valued at SIOO were taken from a house at 22 E. Pratt St., owned by G. J. Marott, 18 E. Washington St. MACHINE MOVES HOUSE Impact of Crash Jars Residence • Two Feet. Bi/ United Press PERU, Ind., Sept. 11.—Charles Oldham today figured out the cost of getting his house back on its foundation, while Marion Woodward of "Wabash consulted a junk dealer on the value of his wrecked car. Woodward and Gerald Ginney of Peru sped down the road in Woodward’s auto at a speed said to be more than sixty miles an hour. Sud/ denly the auto swerved and crashed into Oldham's house, moving it two feet. Oldham and his family ran in terror from the house, thinking it was § earthquake. The two autolsts re uninjured. GLASS WINDOW NEEDED Rikhoff Investigates Breakage of Salvation Army Pane. *‘We would be glad if, at your con venience you would replace a plate glass window in our building that was shattered several weeks ago by a/bullet from a gun in the hands of one of your night police,” states a letter received by Police Chief Herman F. Rikhoff from Malcolm Salmond, manager of the Salvation Army Bldg., 205 W. Pearl St. Salmond stated the officer promised to report the incident and have the glass replaced at once. Rikhoff promised immediate action. JAMES BALDWIN - DEAD Former Editor and Author Dies in Orange, N. J. B i/ Times Special NOBLESVILLE, Ind., Sept. 11.— Word has been received here from Orange, N. J., announcing the death of James Baldwin, 85. He formerly lived near here. He was the author of the Baldwin set of text books for schools and for forty years was editor of the American Book Company. FORMER RESIDENT DEAD Twines Special Fouch, 82, civil war veterans, was buried here today. He lived in Indianapolis many years and was custodian of the Courthouse at Noblesville for a long time.
