In addition, Beech Grove paid a poll tax (ft $3.50 while Indianapolis paid $2. Would Get Advantages If the town is annexed it would have the advantage of the free library system and free kindergarten, paid for out of the school fund. The schools would also become part of tho Indianapolis school system, which is Independent of the State supterinlendent of public instruction, licensing its own teachers. Os course, city police and fire protection would be extended the new addition. Likewise the park board would have to provide recreation centers, parks and playgrounds. The sewer system would be hooked onto that of the city eventually. Beech Grove's addition to Indianapolis vtould be no additional burden on the city, or occasion for a tax rate Increase, as it is wealthier than the city, in comparison, and has its streets paved and Improved. The street car-bus line fight would not be affected by either annexation or staying out, as the State public service commission has the say-so. In case the city council should annex the town, a remonstrance signed by three-fourths the tax payers and filed In Circuit Court within ten days of such action nullifies the annexation. Tax Rate Highest There Is a third part of Beech Grove, the section that lies in Franklin Township. The tax rate there was $3.06, the highest paid by any unit in the county. . No section of Indianapolis had a rate exceeding $3. The excess Beech Grove paid in taxes went for school support.
