OFFICER AND LIQUOR BRING FIXIT LETTER Cop Tells Citizens to Wait for Their Car in Street. Let Mr. Flxit give you a lift on the weary road to public improvements. He Is The Indianapolis Times representative at the city hall. Write him at The Times. The Kingdom of Yewkant has extended to the police department and the inviolable right of citizens to wait for street cars on downtown street corners, denied, according to a letter in Mr. Fixit’s mail bag. DEAR MR. FIXIT—A little something in regard to our efficient police. I and a friend were standing a little south of Washington St. on Illinois St., waiting for a Garfield car. A burly “cop” with the scent of liquor on him walked over to where we svere standing and asked what we wanted. We told him we were waiting for a car and that we had just missed one. “Well,” he said in a tone anything else but pleasant, “the sidewalk is no place to get a street car. The street is the place to wait, so get out there. And I don’t mean maybe!” We went into the street, what else could w r e do? What made me sore was that there were others waiting on the sidewalk at the same time and he did not say a word to them. Yours truly, F. P. If you had any way to identify the alleged officer, Mr. Fixit could bring the matter to the attention of the proper authorities . DEAR MR. FIXIT: What right have gravel trucks or platform trucks to park on our streets and remain there all day in front of a residence? A motor company on Capitol Ave. has been doing this for three weeks on Twelfth St. just west of Muskingum., FOR BETTER INDIANAPOLIS. This seems to be a case where remedy is impossible, Mr. Fixit discovered. The only regulatory city ordinance allows a car to be pat ked not more than ten hours in front of one location, except in zones created by special ordinances. They “ganged” Mr. Fixit with twelve signatures to this one so he had to hit the ball in self-defense. DEAR SIR—For some reason Hancock St., between Jackson St. and the St. Louis Divisiori of the Big Four Railroad, was not graded either this year nor last. It is now becoming a mud hole and no doubt it will get worse asi winter comes on. The undersigned petition you to take this matter up with the proper authorities. E. B.
