RETAIL BUYERS HEAR TALK BY NEW YORK MAN Indianapolis Banker Says Prosperity Will Last for Years. Advent of women in business has made it more difficult for men to get employment than for women, declared Saunders Norvell, New York wholesaler, before retailers attending Buyers’ week Tuesday night at the Claypool. “Twenty years ago no self-respect-ing man would allow the women of his family to work. Now they all work for spending money,’’ he said. Entertainments Furnished The educational meeting was the second of a series of entertainments furnished guests of wholesale firms by the Chamber of Commerce wholesale trade division. "Prosperity will last for years,” said Elmer W. Stout, president o£ Fletcher American National Bank. “We have reached a point where there is plenty of money available at reasonable interest rates. We have just gone through a period of temporary stock speculation in-New York, and I believe are now entering a period of business prosperity,” Stout said. Guests at Theater Out-of-town buyers will be guests of the sixteen wholesale houses tonight at a theater party at English's. Retailers express confidence that the coming season will be one of prosperity and are buying liberally of fall and winter stocks, said Ferd L. Hollweg, chairman. WOMAN CAN USE PAINT IN HOUSE

Furniture May Be Brightened Up With Gay Colors — Flower Boxes and Pots Also Succumbs to Magic Touch of Gifted Brush. By Molly Elliott Today is the day when the woman with ingenuity has come into her own. Out of old cast-off furniture she may furnish her spare bedroom, a little reading room or even the front porch or summer house if her fingers are deft and her mind alert. She sees in the up-to-the-minute shop windows a suite of furniture that is gaudily painted in bright colors and looks alluringly smart and inviting and immediately thinks of the moments she has spent trying to figure out how to replace the old plain porch furnilure with new wicker that she simply could not afford. The result is that friend husband returns one night to a porch full of gay “Palm Beachy” looking paraphernalia that makes him think he has turned in at the wrong gate. Sand Paper Used To make the job complete she first rubbed the entire surface with sand paper. Then she painted each piece a bright orange, dazaffingly gay. Frankly she was a little dubious at this stage of the game. It did look so much brighter than the old suite N But the color was the same as that in the shop windows and all the smart magazines had shown pictures even brighter than this. So. with deft fingers she filled her brush with black paint which she applied to the arm rests, the legs and a band here and there on the backs. The effect was exactly what she had desired and piles of pillows covered with pretty cretonnes completed the picture to a queen's taste. Her neighbor saw the magic change and looked at her own sun parlor with its shabby faded suite. Together they decided upon a color scheme of green and white to be used with dainty printed curtains. Paint Flower Boxes Flower boxes and pots whose surface has ceased to grace the appearance of the porch can he painted to match the furniture and add much to the tidiness of the place. It takes such a little to make vast improvements here and there in the home and the results obtainable are Infinitely more satisfying when they are done through the ingenuity of the housewife that when they are acquired by a great outlay of unnecessary money. This might be callled the “Age of the Paint Can.” for painted furniture is unquestionably smart and in keeping with the general mode of the day. Quaintness may be achieved more easily with a can of paint and a hit of chintz than by shopping for hours in the expensive shops. BUILD YOUR HOME NOW There Is No Certain Time for Construction. The time to build homes is all the time. There is never a time when the very best thing for a community is the building of homes for residence. The permanency of home building is the basis for the great home loving • haraeter of the American people. OILCLOTH FOR DRAPES Oilcloth, of a soft and pliable quality. made in lovely shades tp match the color scheme of the rooms, is used for window drapes and valances in the summer time.

Home of Cornelius Allison, 2801 Sutherland Ave.

The new home of Cornelius Allison, 2801 Sutherland Ave., has all the hallmarks of a real home designed for comfortable living, ideal entertaining and the creation of an atmosphere of artistic and comfortable luxury. The setting among trees on a slight incline in the middle of a large three cornered lot is in itself ideal. The windows and French doors opening onto the terrace and lawn give an inviting appearance from the outside and great quantities of sunshine and light just where they are the most needed on the inside. The brick of which it is made is light grayish tan with black mortar and the trimmings are of stone. The arched front entrance Is beautifully designed with two small arched windows on either side. At the right cf the entrance from the portcochere is a unique metal mail box built right into the brick and opening on the inside. Spacious Room The reception hall, on which Is a flooring of gray and black, is a delightfully spacious room front which the stairway with a beautifully curving bannister of polished walnut leads off. An artistic arched entrance into the living room leads off one side and at the back the gaily colored breakfast room Is viewed through a smaller plastered arch. At the end of the living room opposite the entrance is a decorative fireplace and mantel piece of white soapstone and plaster of paris composition on either side of which is an opening, one onto the porch the other onto the semicircular sun parlor or conservatory. Across one side of the living room is a group of French doors which STOCK FEE ELIMINATED Fletcher Avenue Association Is Help to Small Investors. One of the old established firms of the city the Fletcher Avenue Savings and Loan Association, has the distinction of being one of the few companies that do not charge a small fee for the purchase of stock. In this organization SIOO work of stock is worth SIOO to the buyer. The salesman’s fee is taken care of through a different channel and the customer has the full value of his money. To the small investor, it is pointed out, this means a great deal and added to the long years of steady growth and stability of policy produces confidence in the concern in which he invests his savings. t WHY OMIT DININQ ROOM? Added Space Is Used for Enlarged IJving Room. If conditions in the home are not improving why is there a growing tendency to do away with dining rooms, replacing them with small labor saving breakfast rooms and using the added space for a long hospitable living room where guests may he informally and delightfully entertained at buffet suppers and before the fireplace tea?

open directly onto a terrace. On the other side Is the entrance into the dining room and on either side of the archway are built-in bookcases reaching almost to the celling and finished at the top with a quaint rounded effect and doors of many small panes. Plenty of Sunshine The dining room on the east side of the house gets the morning sun through a group of large windows and also opens onto the sun room at one end. The white tiled kitchen, perfectly equipped In every detail has two little clever cupboard arrangements under the sink opening clear through to the outside one of which can be used for a garbage can or waste paper basket and the other for delivery packages. Outside access to these is on either side of the laundry window. On the other side of the kitchen is the little breakfast room with china cupboards w’th brightly colored glass doors on either side of a doot leading outside. Large Bedrooms Four large bedrooms upstairs lead off of the hallway at the head of the stairs. The two large front rooms are connected, one being papered in a dainty pink and blue Colonial pattern the other in delft blue and white. Each is supplied with a large closet as are both the other large airy rooms. The bathroom with all manner of built-in tile equipment, such as racks, soap dish and tumbler holder is tiled in white with cool, clean looking bands of light green. The shower room is in one corner and closed off with white enameled door. Opposite it is a large linen closet and over the wash basin is a spacious medicine closet with glass shelves and mirror in the door. Besides the clothes cupboards in each bedroom there is also a large closet in the hall with shelves reaching to the ceiling. All the wallpaper throughout the house is artistic and smart and chosen with an idea of its effect on the arrangement of the furniture and pictures. The tiling in the house throughout was done by the Braun Tile Company, and building hardware, by Yonnegut Hardware Company; plumbing by Wiebke Company. Howard L. Burns, was the builder.

Meridian St. Contractors and builders all over the State have availed themselves of the opportunity of buying their wallpaper from this concern, paying onefifth down at the time of purchase and the rest in ten monthly payments. To persons who have as their complex a love of adventure and a weakness for destroying things, the work of the Reliable Wreckers will have a fascination. At present they are wrecking two buildings In Indianapolis. At TwentySecond and N. Delaware Sts. they are tearing down a house which will give room for the widening of the street there. At 941 N. Meridian St. they are removing an old residence, to be replaced by the new home of the K. of P. Insurance Company. Materials for building, gathered from the eighty-four jobs in the last year, are on sale at their yards, 628 W. North St. H. L. O. L.
