TWO WHO LEFT BOY ARE HELD Police Investigate Stories of Man and Woman. Mrs. Essie Loomis Jones, 40, and Harry Jones, 44, both of Cincinnati, said by police to be the mother and stepfather of Jackie Loomis, 3, found deserted at Capitol Ave. and Washington St., Aug. 9, are held today on vagrancy charges under bonds of SI,OOO each, following their arrest late Tuesday at the Craig Hotel, 328 E. Washington St. Jackie was taken back to Cincinnati by the Ohio Humane Society, which had formerly cared for him, and search was started for his parents. He was unidentified for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Jones told police that they made arrangements with a man named Oscar Britton, 143S S. East St., to care for the child while they hiked to Manhattan, Kan., where Jones hoped to obtain employment. Before going to the hotel they said they went to Britton’s home to see the child and were told that owing to the poor health of his' mother the child had been sent back to Cincinnati. Britton turned the child over to police. Stories of Britton and Mr. and Mrs. Jones are being investigated by juvenile court attaches. MOVIE GROUPS ELECT Kelley Named Head of Twentieth Century Founders. Twentieth Century Founders Association, associated organization of the Twentieth Century Motion Picture and Dramatic Club, meeting at the Severin, Tuesday night, elected Jewell Kelley president; W. T. McCullough. secretary and Harry ft. Raidie of Anderson, treasurer. The executive board Vi 11 be appointed at a later date. W. S. Frye urged the members to give the association their moral support. At the meeting, 123 memberships were obtained toward the quota of 1,000 new members. The next meeting will be Friday evening at the Severin. MANY AT SHRINE FROLIC Broad Ripple Park Scene of Midsummer Festivities. Thousands thronged Broad Ripple 'P irk Tuesday night at the Midst miner Shrine Frolic, for the benefit of the “Pilgrimage Fund” to send the uniformed Shrine bodies to the national convention in Philadelphia in June. A fireworks display was given. The Dutton Family, equestrians, headed the vaudeville program. Murat Temple is in charge of all park concessions and the Frolic will continue the remainder of the week. POLICE AID TWO WOMEN Key Missing, So Fire Escape Is Used T>ease Building. Motorpolice Schley and Long, early today rescued Mrs. H. S. Adams and Mrs. A. Marshall from the When Bldg., where the two were locked In after working in the Adams studio on the fourth floor. Mrs. Adams told police she could not find her key. Escorted by the officers the women climbed down the fire escape. NO SPEEDERS ARRESTED But Police Charge Two Motorists With Intoxication. Although police w-ere unsuccessful in their search for speeders late Tuesday and early today two motorists were arrested on charges of intoxication and driving an auto while under the influence of Intoxicating liquor. The men arrested gave their names as George Robinson, 38, city, and Orville Ellis, 39, of 616 E. Georgia St. STEPMOTHER IS FINED Son Charges Indiana Gossip Law Broken by Woman. Bu Time s Bnecial COLUMBUS, Ind., Aug. 2£. —Mrs. Letha Hayden, merchant, was more careful today how she talked about her stop-son. She told police he offered her a drink of whisky. The step-son, Clarence Hayden, had her arrested on chargo es violating the Indiana gossip law. Judge fined her $25 and costs. HUT TO BE DEDICATED Dedicatory exercises of the Salvation Army hut will be held at the Salvation Army reservation on -the Pendelton Pike at 4 p. m., Thursday. Kiwanis Club members wdll be honor guests.
