\ Big Four Car Shops at Beech Grove EECH GROVE , thriving town of some 3,500 inhabitants, lies ' three miles southeast of the Monument Circle—an undiscovered country to most of Indianapolis. Here is located the Big Four repair shops, largest industry around Indianapolis, employing 2,600 men. It is the heart of Beech Grove. Not all of Beech Grove is car shops, contrary to the general impression. There are beautiful tree-flanked streets lined with homes of men who commute daily to Indianapolis. There are twenty-five miles of paved streets Beech Grove is the fourth richest city in the State —with sewers in, waiting for more homes. The town boasts of its altitude, 180 feet higher than Indianapolis, which assures freedom from fog and smoke.
