Examine the mechanism of the EASY Washer as carefully as you please and you will find that it has no belts of any description. The mechanism, of course, is completely enclosed, but if you were to take it apart you would find no sign of a belt anywhere. The EASY is built on the “gear-drive” principle, the power which operates the washer and the wringer being transmitted from the motor by gears, just as in the finest automobiles. This method does away w r ith interruptions such as frequently occur in the case of belt-driven machinery when a belt slips off or breaks. Os all the improvements w r hich have made electric washers dependable, the elimination of belts is one of the most important.

used at Northwestern somehow finds its way quickly to every college campus, from Maine to Wyoming. Butier is no exception. For instance “common droop" is a successor to “all wet.” The "common droop” is the sad-eyed lad or girl who doesn't fit In with the generai scheme of things around the campus. “Mugging” Is Tasso "Mugging" and "petting” are now passe. "Mugging” is now “back porching,” derived from an old song, “Last Night on the Back Porch,” according to the Northwestern handbook. The technique of "back porching” is variously described. One who lacks the touch born of experience in the art is one who merely"pecks.” The expert is known as the “fadeout.” When a girl proves, to be a "dud” on a date, she Is known as ‘‘wet drip.” A “him" Is of the same variety as a “wet drip,” but not quite so much of a “dud.” Flattery Stilt “Oil” Flattery is still "oil” to the campus. Slang also extends to the world
of class rooms, and the student who excells in his studies is said to "have every one cheated.” Once the campus chatterers said of an aloof person that he was "high hat,” or "up stage." Now they say he extends the “icy mitt.” or gives the "climate." “Hippers” are boys who carry the illicit liquor on their hips in silver flasks. Latest Threat Given The latest threat Is, “I’ll pound bumps (or knots) on your head,” though “hope all your children have hang nails,” is also good form. The rather effeminite male of the species is a "lilly” at college this year, while to "lilly around” is to kill time at the campus confectionery with the "wife.” Going for a ride In an automobile after a dance is "buggy dashing,” while "thanks for peanuts and buggy ride,” Is a common form of saying good night. Perhaps the tnost colorful admonition in college slang, one whiqh Is shouted to a misbehaving or tiresome person is: “Be your age! But don’t crawl on the floor!”
