NELL GETS A RIDE ON GRAVEL TRUCK
Note—Nell Gordon of The Times staff Mki making a unique tour of Indiana—foot and with the assistance of raowho give her a lift. A story of her exr rience appears in The Times each day. By Nell Gordon After a hot day in Buciwn County, ■where I found the roads to be narrow and dusty, with the hills shutting off what little breeze existed, I was pleased when a young man from Peoria, 111., asked me to ride. He was en route from Louisville to Xoblesyille, and I accepted his hospitality to the edge of the latter city, where I alighted and started north. A big truck filled with sand soon overtook me, and as I looked up at the driver he produced a red handkerchief from his pocket, brushed the dust off the seat beside him, and, remarking that "riding is sometimes better than walking,’’ offered me a lift. As soon as I was seated he said: "I have been reading after you in the papers." I asked him his name and wnere he was taking the sand to. Also I explained to him that many married men refuse to let me put their names In the paper, although they are kind In offering me rides. “They are fixing to put in waterworks at Arcadia and the sand is for the tower,” he explained after telling me his name'was Will Caylor. “I guess there is a lot of jealousy in the world, but my wife and I meet each other half way on that. She never gets jealous and I never give her cause to worry', so we go through life pretty happy on a sort fifty-fifty basis.” Fields of Tomatoes As we rode along I noted field after field of tomato vines, but failed to see the fruit. “Is it too early for the tomatoes,”? I asked. ‘‘Yes, they are a little late this eeason. Seems like the rain washed the blossoms off considerable and made the fruit late. Maybe, too, there will come an early frost and ketch the fruit. That kind of a crop is usually pretty uncertain business for the farmer,” he explained. When we reached Arcadia, the destination of the load of sand, I wondered how far I would have to hike, as the weather was threatening, and not a car in sight. However, I was soon stopped by L. C. Hines of Ekin, who proved to be equally as hospitable as the sand man. "I hope to reach Tipton,” I explained when he asked me my destination.

“Now I am headed right to the ice cream factory in Tipton,” he said. “I bhy a right smart bit of goods over there and I have a gallon of Ice cream to deliver six mile® west and one mile north. Want to ride along,?!’ I did. Rim Factory “What other factories has Tipton besides the ice cream works,?" I asked. “Well, now they uised to have a right smart lot of factories and I guess they got them yet but I don’t know so much about them. There was one I knew about though. It was a collapsible rim factory for automobiles but the factory collapsed before the rim did and a lot of folks lost the money they put in. The fellow who promoted it left town and I hear he is selling herb medicine for kidneys, the kind you wrote about in your story the other day I guess, only he don’t get his from the Indians only makes believe he does, and wherever he is I bet he is making the sick folks believe he can pull them right out of their beds and stand them on their feet.” “Was he an Indian?” I asked. No, not as good a® en Indian. You know there are some white people who aren’t. This chap was a slick talker and a great liar.” Still Owes Money When we arrived in Tipton, the weather was bad and the rain threatened. I took shelter in a garage. “I hear you lost one of your factories in this town,” I said by way of conversation. “Yes, right over there in that red building. I knew the man who promoted it about as well a® any one in town. He still owes me money and when j'ou know a man over S2OO worth in little dribs of gas and oil and storage you know him pretty well." ‘‘How did he happen to stick you for that much?” I asked. “Oh, he was a good liar, I guess. He was not a smooth talker but a good liar. He told me the machine belonged to the tompany and I supposed the company was all right as a lot of us did, but when he left he took the machine with him and I heard afterwards it was his all the time. *1 guess you can go up street and find a lot of people he owes money to.”

if You Pay More jMfc For Your Dentistry m Than We Ask, What More _ Do You Get For The Difference \
The above is a question worth considering. We nor any other dentist can buy better material than enters into the construction of our work. There is no other dental firm in the city that is in a position to buy material at anywhere near the price that we do. Hanning Bros, and associate dentists are graduate dentists of long experience, and our enormous volume of business enables us to make the price low and low prices increase our volume of business. Do not experiment. Come to our office and let us estimate your work free. If It’s Worth Doing, It’s Worth Guaranteeing
