0.0. P. EDITORS OPPOSE INCOME TAX PUBLICITY Senator Watson Praised and Tax Reduction Program Indorsed. Bu United Press MICHIGAN CITY, Ind., Aug. 7. Republican newpapers of Indiana were pledged today against publication of indome tax returns. T*he association at its midsummer outing here, placed itself on record as favoring repeal of the publicity clause of the Income tax lew and pledged its member papers against printing the figures. Senator Watson Praised • Other resolutions praised the work of Senator Watson, who will be a candidate for re-election next year and praised the Administration of President Coolidge and Governor Jackson. Resolutions also indorsed the tax reduction program of Secretary of the Treasury Mellon and ,the leadership of Clyde A. Walb, Republican State chairman. Governor Jackson Thursday night reviewed the progress of the Administration in paying off the State debt. He said *500,000 of the debt has been paid since Jan. 1 and another $400,000 will be paid by Oct- 1. Tax Reduction He promised the entire debt would be wiped off the books next year and gave assurance the State tax levy for next year will be reduced from 28 to 25 cents. Senator Deneen, of Illinois, urged full-hearted support of the Republican editors in the municipal campaign this fall and in the Congressional campaign next year. Arthur Gilliom, attorney general, charged lack of cooperation in dry law enforcement in some Indiana cities controlled by Democratic officers. The editors were taken today for an inspection of the Indiana State Prison and an inspection of the industrial section of the city. No action was taken Thursday by the State committee in naming a permanent secretary for the committee. Harry C. Fenton of Indianapolis is slated for the place although there are other candidates. GOODRICH TO EMBARK Party of Four to Sail For Europe, Aug. 20. Bu Times Special WINCHESTER, Ind., Aug. 7. Former Governor James P. Goodrich and Mrs. Goodrich will embark from New York, Aug. 20, for a three month’s tour of Europe, it was learned today. They will be accompanied by Dr. Golder of Leland Stanford University and Mrs. ' Paul Haynes of Indianapolis. It Is under stood Goodrich’s trip is one of business connected with the Russian government. Dr. Golder is to study conditions In Russia. Mrs. Goodrich and Mrs. Haynes will tour other European countries. MISSING GROCER SOUGHT t Authorities Believe Man Fatally Shot Wife. Bv Times Special EVANSVILLE, Ind., Aug. 7. Authorities today scouted the idea that Frank Williams, grocer who is believed to have fatally shot Mrs. Williams Wednesday night, had committed suicide and have given up search for his body. Mrs. Williams died without revealing the name of her slayer. City and county officials have redoubled efforts to capture Williams. Authorities in other counties have been notifie dto watch for him.

It Is believed his shortage will run as high as SIO,OOO or $12,000. Officials have been unable to find any clew of the missing man. TAPS FOR WAR VETERAN Boswell H. Hill To Be Buried in Crown Hill Cemetery. Bu United Press BRAZIL, Ind., Aug. 7. —The body of Boswell H. Hill, 83, tyice State treasurer, who died Thursday night at his home here, was to be taken to Indianapolis today for burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Funeral services were held here preceding removal of the body. Mr. Hill, who had been an invalid fifteen years, v .is a Civil War veteran. He served as major on the staff of Gen. Edwf rd McCook. He was active in polnics, being elected Clay County treasurer in 1873. In 1880 he was elected State treasurer, serving two consecutive terms. One On and five daughters survive. BAPTISTS TO CONVENE Whitewater Association Will Open 115th Session. Bv Times Special CONNERSVILLE, Ind., Aug. 7. The Whitewater Primitive Baptist Association will open its 115th annual session here' Saturday. Eight churches located in Fayette, Frarik]in, Rush. Union, Wayne and Randolph Counties will be represented. Elder E. W. Harlan moderator, will preside. Session will end Sunday night when it is expected 1,000 persons will attend. INSANE PATIENT SOUGHT Police were asked by Central Hospital for Insane authorities to search for James Sweezy, 66, who escaped from that institution Thursday. He was dressed in a dark suit, straw hat and black shoes.
