BUILT-IN FEATURES PROVE POPULAR!

Not Limited to Living and Dining Room and Kitchen, But Can Be Placed in Hallways and Many Other Spots With Success. By Molly Elliott. Built-in features for the. home are by no means limited to those in living room, dining room and kitchen. The useful built-in linen drawers in the hallway, the window seats in the bedrooms and the cabinets and drawers in the bathroom are all features that add to the value of a house. Instead of building an ordinary closet with high shelves for bedding, so that the housewife must stand on tiptoe or climb upon a chair to -reach it, builders are now incorporating into the hallway a. deep-shelved, double-doored closet that holds' blankets, comforts and bed linens. These may be easily taken down or put away, and some builders go to the additional expense of putting double doors or linen closets in order to make them dustproof. - Shelves Above Frequently drawers are used below and shelves above, and both drawers and shelves enclosed by doors, giving added protection to their contents. Cedar lined closets for storing winter wraps and woolen bedding are also a feature of many modern homes, and an attractive and useful feature of the bedroom is a built-in window seat lined with cedar. This not only serves as a storage place but does as an extra seat, and when placed below a window forms a most inviting resting place. Frequently these seats are built between two closets that extend into the room and leave a small alcobe nook between them, and the closets, as well as the built-in seat, add much to the usefulness of the room. Modern bathrooms are usually provided with a set of drawers in which towels, wash cloths and other linens for the bath are kept convenient for use, and when these drawers are built below or at each side of a window and a dressing shelf placed between them they form a most convenient dressing room arrangement. Sometimes they are placed against an inside wall, with a mirror above the dressing table, but wherever they are they are sure to be found useful as a place to put away the thousand and one things that accumulate in even the most orderly bathroom. Glass Doored Shower And, speaking of bathroom conveniences, tfie glass-doored showet is one of the latest improvements, taking the place of heavy curtains in keeping the water from splashing Into the rest of the room yet allowing much more light to enter than is possible when curtains are use. Recesses built into the wall of a tiled bahtroom are convenient for holding the elusive soap and the drinking glass, apd improvements in plumbing equipment have made this room, in the words of the poet, “a thing of beauty.”

GARAGE CAN BE BUILT FOR CAR AT SMALL COST Hamilton Lumber Company Supplies Lumber ReadyCut. Twenty years ago an automobile was regarded as a luxury to be enjoyed only by the very wealthy, and those who could not afford this quick and convenient method of transportation were compelled to live as close to town as possible in order to go to and from work quickly. Now, however, one may buy a home out in the suburbs and, with an inexpensive car, enjoy the pleasures of life out of the congested district. Remarkable 'Home Complete 9 Is Patterned After Chicago Model

A conveniently arranged and most attractively finished bungalow —one in which unusual care and taste has been shown in the choice of decorations, light fixtures and bathroom equipment—is that designed, built, and for sale by the Whitney R. Spiegel Company, 401 Peoples Bank Bldg. The house is located at 1030 Bancroft Ave., a new and rapidly developing addition, and is not only close to an excellent school, but is within one block of the New York St. bus line. In its design, this bungalow was patterned after the model home in the recent Chicago ’home complete” show, and one who examines it will easily understand why it should indeed be regarded as a model of the small home. Color Harmonious Its exterior coloring is harmonious and pleasing, silvery-gray stained shingles being used for the walls and light green asphalt shingles for the roof, while the window and door trim is in ivory and the shutters of a medium green. The cement floored porch extends across the south half of the front, leaving the two casement windows on the north half, of the front unshaded. Below these windows is an ivory-painted flower box. in which one can imagine petunias nodding a morning welcome to the occupant of the northeast bedroom. Two casement windows and a French door that opens from the porch from the living room on the east, while long windows on each side of the fireplace admit breeze and sunshine from the south. The walls of this room, the dining room and the hallway are papered in a two-tone gray brocade paper, against which the walnut woodwork and dark red bricks of the wide fireplace show to excellent advantage. Very attractive light fixtures in gray-toned gold have been used in the living room, the center fixture being supplemented by two candelabra lights at each side of the space above the fireplace. A plastered arch connects the

garage is just as important to a complete residence as a kitchen. If you own a home without a garage, however, it may be added at much less expense than it would cost to build on a kitchen. The Hamilton Lumber Company, 719 E. Maryland St., makes a specialty of selling lumber for garages and supplies the material cut out and ready to set up. With these ready-to-use materials, it is a simple matter for any man. whether or not he'is a carpenter, to build his own garage. Prices on these ready-cut materials vary, depending upon the size garage desired. The “flivver size," a 10x12 garage, may be built for a S7O material cost, a 12x12 for S9O, a 12x19 for $134, an 18x18 for $175 and a 20x20 for SIBO. These larger sizes accommodate two cars, and one may have a place for one’s own car and a profitable investment by building a two-car size and renting the unused side to someone In the neighborhood who rents and doesn't realize that fourteen months’ rental at $5 a month would pay for the material to build a permanent home for the flivver. HUNT ALLEGED SLAYER State Combed for Missing Farm Hand. Bu United Preen NORTH LIBERTY. Ind.. Aug. 6. living room with the south-win-dowed dining room, from which a west door opens into a well-ar-ranged kitchen and a door on the south leads into the short hallway connecting the two bedrooms and the bathroom. Kitchen walls have been finished in lignt gray enamel. with a slightly darker shade used for the woodwork. A recessed space on the west, lighted by a west window and an overhead light, provides an ideal place for the stove and next to this space is a built-in cabinet with glassed-doored shelf space and many drawers for cooking utensl's. The sink is thoughtfully placed beneath a south window, making the places most used by the housewife the pleasantest in which to work, and a recessed place in the enclosed entry way provides a space for the refrigerator. This entry way leads to a grade entrance on the west, and from here, also, the stairs lead to the large, light basement. * Bedrooms Attractive It is in the two bedrooms and bath, however, that the average woman will find most to admire, for the finish in these three rooms is exceptionally attractive. The front bedroom, on the northeast, has two large east windows and two full size north windows, and is given additional charm by a lovely pastel-toned paper In cream and rose tints and ivory-toned woodwork. The back bectroom, windowed on the north and west, is finished in a beautiful paper in which yellow predominates and both rooms are as large, airy and dainty in coloring as any woman could desire. As for the bathroom, few large houses show a room as spacious and as well finished. The walls are finished in blue enamel above with white tile effect below. The floor is of two-toned gray tiles, set Ln afa attractive design. The tub is built-in and the pedestal lavatory, mirrored medicine cabinet and all other fixtures of unusually good quality and design.
