■m SRO¥E HAS REJOICING Citizens Celebrate Purchase of Traction Line. Beech Grove citizens held a public rejoicing' Tuesday night, celebrating purchase of the Beech Grove traction line by C. Schmidt, and refusal of the public service commission to allow a bus line between Indianapolis and Beech Grove. • A special traction car carried a party of about 150 to Indianapolis, and then to Riverside Park. Sale of the line to Schmidt was announced Tuesday by the Fletcher Savings and Trust Company, receivers, the price being $35,000. At the same time Schmidt filed a petition with the public service commission, asking that he be allowed to establish a bus line to Beech Grove if the commission at any time should decide that public convenience and necessity should require such a line. Everett S. Harlan, 2834 Kenwood Ave„ has been named superintendent of the traction company.

Washington St., is at liberty today under a S2OO appeal bond following his conviction in city court Tuesday on a charge of driving an auto while intoxicated. Thirtieth St. Robert Landry, 1121 Villa Are., was fined sls and costs on an assault and battery charge and SSO and costs for passing a stopped street car by Judge Wilmeth. City Judge Dan V. White, fined Eugene Hockaver, 2506 W. Walnut St., and Wesley Neal, 615 Fayette St. each $25 and costs on reckless driving charges in city court. COLORED ORDER MEETS Ancient Knights and Daughters of Africa Have Convention. Reports of grand officers and district deputies of the Ancient Knights and Daughters of Africa indicate that 2,000 colored persons are attending the organization’s convention in Indianapolis. A mardi gras parade and a public reception at the Bethel A. M. E. church were Tuesday nights features. Racial unity, cooperation and race building were stressed Tuesday morning by William Herbert Field of St. Louis, grand master and founder of the order.
