CONFESSION OF ‘POISON WIDOW’ ISSUE IN TRIAL Court Battle Looms Over Admission of Document — Woman Repudiates It. Bu United Press CROWN POINT, Ind., July 20. The confession of Mrs. Anna Cunningham that she poisoned three of her children today furnished the issue of battle in the murder trial of Gary’s “poison widow.” Defense attorneys fought to prevent admission of the confession as evidence, while the State attempted clinch its case with the document. Repudiates It Taking the stand just before weekend adjournment, Mrs. Cunningham repudiated every detail of the confession, which was made after her arrest last April. Mental experts for the State, who examined her, said they found no trace of mental derangement in the woman and that she was thoroughly competent to have made the statement. Held Sane To combat this expert testimony, the defense is expected to call other physicians in an attempt to show Mrs. Cunningham was subject to fainting spells and periods of coma. Upon the ruling of Judge Smith on admissibility of the confession depends Mrs. Curtningham's fate. SAFE WOULD NOT OPEN Burglars Take Clothing at Store— Other Thefts Reported. Burglars who entered the dry goods store of Mrs. Elizabeth Cake, 010 Indiana Ave., failed in their attempt to open the safe Saturday. Clothing valued at SSO was taken. Cash register at Losey-Nash Auto Company, 400 N. Capitol A v a., was rifled of $23. Small amount of stock was stolen by burglars who entered Kroger grocery, 3126 E. Twenty-Fifth St. ( Sunday. Grip containing clothing valued at $47.50 was stolen from Mrs. C. J. Gault, 2020 Bellefontaine St., Saturday. Pickpockets obtained $6 from Mrs. S. Zimmerman, 880 \V. Walnut St., and sl2 from Miss Kate Mason, Carmel, Ind., Saturday. ‘BARBER’ USES LADDER Girl, 14, Says Someone Entered Room and Cut Her Hair. May Fite, 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Fite, 848 W. New York St., told police someone entered her bedroom late Saturday by climbing up a ladder and cut her hair. “Please do not whip May for I cut her hair,” was written on a piece of paper left by the alleged intruder. Police investigated the story.

MAN AND WIFE HELD Theodore Wilson, 46, colored, 2223 Columbia Ave., and his wife, Dollie, are held today on assault sand batery charges. Police say Mrs. Wilson cut her husband on the arm after he had choked her, Saturday.

CHURCH RAISES FUND Zion Evangelical Congregation to Build Parish House. More than $7,500 has been pledged to the proposed $150,000 fund for erecting anew parish house and remodeling the Zion Evangelical Church, New Jersey and North Sts., it v. as announced today. Seating capacity of the auditorium will be increased to about 2,000, the Rev. F. R. Daries, pastor, said. J. Hilkene, building chairman, announced construction will begin next spring. CHURCH BREAKS GROUND Work on Carrollton Ave. Building Will Start Soon. Work on the new $75,000 building of the Carrollton Avenue Reformed Church will be begun soon, John A.
