SUSPECT SEIZED IN LONG CHASE , Woman Identifies Him as Alleged Burglar. Identified as a man seen trying to enter a house and captured after a long chase, a man giving his name as Cecil "Quackenbush, 26, of 516 N. Alabama St., is held today under a $5,000 bond at city prison. Guy Heckman, city fireman, 632 W. Twenty-Ninth St.; Robert Nueling, 806 Udell St., and J. W. Parsely, 969 W. Twenty-Ninth St., chased the man they saw in a neighbor’s yard Wednesday night. Mrs. Violet Morris, 904 Udell St., identified Quackenbush as the man who attempted to enter her home. Walb, chairman of the Republican State committee, and Mrs. Walb. COAL COMPANY LEASES Fourth Floor of Stone Bldg. Will Be Occupied by Allied Concern. The Allied Coal and Material Company, with offices in the Odd Fellow Bldg., has leased the fourth floor cf the Stone Bldg., 12-16 W. Ohio St., it was learned today. The lease was obtained from D. A. Coulter of 40 W. Ohio St., who holds a ninety-nine-year lease on the building. The coal company expects to occupy its new quarters about Aug. 15.

The Rainbow Veterans’ Association elected D. I. Glossbrenner, general manager of Levy Printing Company, third vice president at the seventh annual convention in Chicago. Glossbrenner, who lives at 415 E. Forty-Eighth St., served with the 150th Field Artilllery, and has attended every national convention of the organization since it was founded on the Rhine in Germany. Father Francis P. Duffy of New York, "fightin’ chaplain” of the organization, was elected president. New York will entertain the 1926 convention. — POLICE EXHIBIT SHOWN Bell Telephone Company Has Collection of Articles. A window display in observance of the International Association Chiefs of Police convention now in. session here, is exhibited at the Indiana Bell Telephone Company. Regulation, police badges, clubs, hand cuffs, leg irons, and guns, furnished by the police department, occupy the center of the display. On each side is a collection of articles taken from law violators by the police and used as evidence in city court. This collection is the property of Judge Delbert O. Wilmeth.

Crime Bows to Woman
EARIS, Ky., a city of 12,000. has been cleaned of bootleggers, and traffic violators are no more, according to its chief of police, W. F. Link. It has been done by a woman judge, Mrs. F. B. Sutherland) 50, ex-schoo! teacher and a widow, who was appointed police judge in October, 1923, to fill an 'unexpired term. PROF. MAHIN QUITS Purdue Man Who Rapped Football, Goes to Notre Dame. Bit United Press v LAFAYETTE, Ind., July 16. Resignation of Prof. Edward G. Mahin, acting head of the chemistry department of Purdue University, was in the hands of President Elliott today. Prof. Mahin will become professor of analytical chemistry and metallurgy at Notre Dame University this fall. Prof. Hahin created a sensation last winter by a speech atacking intercollegiate football and charging the games were occasion for drunken revelry among students. OFFICERS SEEK BRIDGE VANDALS Railings Thrown in River —Boat Disappears. Bridge bandits who have developed a mysterious grudge against White River bridges at W. New York St. and Emrichsville, are sought by police today. Ten days ago workmen of the street commissioner’s department started fishing the stream for bridge railings that had been tossed Into the river. Monday night, they said six men knocked off a number of sections of railings and disappeared in an Automobile. The same night they knocked away some newly constructed columns from the Emrichsville bridge. The city “fishermen” recovered the railings Tuesday and placed them in a large gravel boat, which they moored to the shore Tuesday night. Wednesday morning they found the railings on shore and the gravel boat gone. ALLEGED BANDIT HELD Homer Ward, colored, 1062 Holbum St., was slated on robbery and grand larceny charges today. Detectives Dugan and Stewart allege he held up William Humphrey. 553 N. Belle Viau PI., July 3, at Blako St. and the canal and took a $63 watch.

MARKET FRUIT SUPPLY GOOD Many Vegetables Also on Sale at Stands. The supply of fruit and vegetables was plentiful today on the stands and at the curb of the city market. Plums sold from 10 to 20 cents a pound, and poaches could be secured at four pounds for 25 cents. Transparent apples sold at five pounds for 25 cents and new apples on the stands for the first time today, sold at two pounds for 25 cents. Grapes were 40 cents a pound; cantaloupes sold at 15 to 20 cents each; pears were selling at 20 cents a pound; all radishes were 5 cents a bunch and new celery was 15 cents a stalk. Every stand had plenty of good sweet corn that sold at five for 26c. Tomatoes averaged 15c to 30c a pound. Watermelons were 75c each for the best. No radical changes were recorded in the meat division of the market. Round steak was 40c a pound; porterhouse sold at 66c a pound; good roasts sold at 16c to 30c a pound, and pork chops sold at 350 a pound.
