PARK BOARD TO AID REMOVING OF BAD TREES Mr. Fixit Gets Complaint on Creosoted Paving Blocks. Mr. Fixit's job is to aid o.mes readers. If you would obtain his assistance in dealing with city officials, .write him at The .Times. By Mr. Fixit The park board will aid property owners in obtaining’ removal of dangerous trees that threaten to drop on passersby or on persons in adjoining properties, Mr. Fixit discovered today*. DEAR MR. FIXIT: I am writing to see if you can find out about a large tree partly dead in the first alley off Washington St. on Garfield Ave. It is very dangerous and the residents here are afraid it will fall and either hurt someone or damage their garage. MRS. W. W. Elbert Moore, city forester, will 'investigate this complaint at once. If the tree is in the lawn of a property owner, he will be ordered to remove it; if it is on city property the park board will han- ' die the case. DEAR MR. FIXIT: Can you discover any good reason why creosoted wooden blocks should be used in our streets? AH that I can say for them is that they are like Ivory soap—they float away every time it rains, or else buckle up. They also are very dangerous in wet weather, because they are so stfppery and when the weather is dry the tar covering makes them so. In the storm Sunday, Meridian St. was torn up at various places north of the Fall Creek bridge. 'No doubt these blocks will be put back in place, where they will remain until the next rain. My suggestion would be that these blocks which have washed out should be replaced temporarily with bricks until such time as the rest of the street washes away and then an entirely new street of asphalt or concrete be laid. It is a waste of the taxpayers’ money to lay new streets or even repair old ones with these wooden blocks. C. E. A. Authorities at the city hall agree with your denunciation of wooden block as a paving- material. However, they believe it would be illogical to repair the street with brick, because of its bad appearance along with the block paving. Mr. Fixit would suggest that a petition be circulated for resurfacing the
