KNAPP CAPTURE BELIEVED NEAR iP'fi Wrecked, Auto of Rich Fugi--9 five Found. By Vnitei Press ijpW YORK, July 15.—Although a Wrecked automobile driven by Phillip K. Knapp, alleged fugitive and slayer of Luis Panella has been fodtid in Seneca County, up-state, District Attorney Weeks of Nassau County expressed belief today that thei young man might be captured within a few hours in New York City. Bocal police who have been cooperating with Long Island authorities in the manhunt believe Knapp dolled back on his tracks after wrecking his automobile near Romulus. Letters received by former army buddies-from the deserter indicated he intended to rejoin a bootleggers band near the Thousand Islands. It now is believed these letters were written as a blind and that Knapp is seeking safety from pursuit among New York’s six millions. ~ OPPOSITION EXPRESSED Mayor Against Plan to Keep Courts in Police Station. Mayor Shank today expressed opposition to the proposal of county commissioners to allow two of the four courts, which replace present city courts Jan. 1, to remain in the police station. Shank said he believed the police dwtu’tment needed all space availahflE the building. He will confer Police Chief Herman F. Rikhoff and board of safety members.

Pennsylvania said a burglar was holding the door so she could not enter. Sergeant Sheehan and squad entered an upstair window and found no one. Sheehan said Mrs. Osterman probably forgot about the inside snap lock when she went out. APARTMENT IS ROBBED Blind Woman Also Reports §lO Missing From Taxi. A burglar stole clothing worth $l6O from the apartment of Max Golden, 221 E. Pratt St., police were told today. Mrs. Emma McKenzie, blind, of 1116 Udell St., told police that when she alighted from a taxicaTa at her home the driver said her bag, containing $lO and some crochet work, was gone. A NO CLEW TO SHOOTING Colored Youth Wounded Near Six Points, Brought to Hospital. Sheriff Rodney and Prosecutor J. T. Hume, both of Hendricks County, said today they have no clew to the person who shot James Grimes, colored, 16, Guthrie, Ivy., near Six Points ,at the east border of Hendricks County, late Tuesday. Charles B. Minor, 15, colored, also of Guthrie said he and Grimes, were walkin to Indianapolis to visit Grimes sister and were joined by a white boy at Terre Haute. They were sleeping behind a sign board when Grimes was shot. He was brought to city hospital.

POLICE SLATE DOZEN DRIVERS Five Face Speeding Charges After Tuesday Night. Twelve auto drivers were slated at the city prison Tuesday night, five being alleged speders. They gave their names and addresses as: Curtiss Davis, 17, of 3141 Shelby St., and Murl. Boles, 18, of 1218 ... Oakland Ave(, charged with speeding and reckless driving on the left side of street car; Thomas R. Neal, 28, of 2926 Cornell Ave., charged with speeding, resisting arrest and improper driving. Elmer F. Hhodes, 30, of 3933 Kenwood Ave., and Frank Minardo, 32, of 503 IV. Morris St., charged with speeding, and Minardo with assault and battery; John Pearson, 30, of 2204 E, Washington St., held on of assault and battery and driving while intoxicated, and Leonard Otto, 17, of 1443 S. Talbott Ave., charged with failure to stop -after an accident. Five drivers violated other traffic driving laws, police say. YEAR ADDED TO COURSE Effective in 1928, Dentists Must Go to Bloomington. Effective in 1926, students in Indiana University’s dental school, formerly the Indiana Dental College, will be required to complete a fiveyear course instead of a four-year course. Dean Frederic R. Henshaw, announced today. A year’s study in chemistry, zoology and English at Indiana University at Bloomington, will preface the four-year course in dentistry here, he said.

New Jersey St., under arest today charged with possession and transportation of intoxicating liquor. They were arrested Monday near an abandoned farm house, eight miles south of Noblesville, Ind., when Sheriff Charles Gooding and Federal prohibition agents found eighteen gallons of alcohol in an automobile. TAXI DRIVER IS DANDIT VICTIM Responds to Call for Cab — Robbed of SB. A hold-up, an attempted one and the capture of an alleged burglar Tuesday night were reported by police today. Police were unable to find a colored man who attempted to break into the home of Roy Davidson, 703 E. Forty-Eeighth St. William Fenders, 705 E. Forty-Eighth St., reported he scared the man away. Ind., July 15.—Flirta tion with a woman bank teller whom he is alleged to have tricked out of SSO a few minutes before, led to the arrest of George T. Stone of Columbus, Ohio, alleged short change artist, on a grand larceny charge. He Is said to be wanted in other Indiana cities on similiar charges.
