Average price of twenty industrial stocks for Saturday. July. 11. was 131.33. off .50. Average price of twenty rails for Saturday. July 11. was 98.48. off .12. By putted Press NEW YORK, July 11.—A slight weakening took place in Steel, Baldwin, American Can and other leading industrials at the start of the second hour. However, the volume of dealings among pivotal stocks continued small, with the principal activity attached to special movements. Bethlehem was a strong spot in the steel group, selling at 41%, up nearly 2 points from Friday’s low. Robert Reis continued to lead the hot weather stocks, selling at 28 in volume on buying based on expectations of record breaking earnings this year. An important announcement by the company is anticipated in the near future.. The market closed lower. Friday’s market reaction was put down in brokerage circles as primarily due to professional selling based on the advance in call money to 4% per cent. However, it was felt that this drive had forced comparatively little liquidation and encouragement was derived from the good recovery which took place in the final dealings. Further confidence was imparted by the optimistic character of weekly mercantile reviews which said advices received from many centers indicated that business as a whole was being maintained in satisfactory volume and In not a few instances provision for the future was being made with increasing confidence. This evidence of a tendency to break away from a hand-to-mouth policy in merchandise buying of goods, was reflected in the steadier tone in the general list in early dealings today. Price changes in pivotal issues were small, but mosty on the upside. Local Bank Clearings Indianapolis bank clearing’s lor Saturday, July 11 amounted to 53.371,000. Bank debits for Saturday. By United Press CHICAGO, July 11—Grain futures closed resting firmly at the top of drastic advances on the Board of Trade, today. The closing gong checked steady and uninterrupted advances that carried from the opening. July wheat led, being up 9 cents, the biggest gain in over a month. Distant options were up 6*4 cents. Coarse grains made appreciable gains, in sympathy with wheat. Bullish construction plrced on the Canadian government report, supplemented by more numerous black rust advances from the spring growing region, brought unrestrained buying into the wheat pit. Although corn borrowed strength from wheat there was, too, the high temperatures to be reckoned with. Oats advanced under similar circumstances. Covering by shorts, renewed local buying, boosted provisions. Chicago Grain Table —July 11WHEAT— Prev. Open. High Low. Close. close. POPE’S DECISION PLEASES DISHOP Rt. Rev. Chartrand to Remain in Indianapolis. Jlappy In the retention of the Rt. Rev. Joseph Chartrand as bishop of the diocese of Indiianapolis, Catholics of the rlty today prepared to carry on the work to which Bishop Chartrand has shown devoted interest in his long service here. Through his secretary, the Rev. Elmer Ritter, the bishop announced himself pleased at the decision. News that Pope Pius had rescinded the appointment of Bishop Chartrand as archbishop of Cincinnati, Ohio, made last May, came as a surprise Friday. Instead, the Pope named the Rt. Rev. John T. MeNicholas, bishop of Duluth, Minn., to the Cincinnati see. Under the old appointmeent, Bishop McNicholas would have succeeded Bishop Chartrand in Indianapolis. The reversal by Pope Pius followed receipt of many requests that Bishop Chartrand be permitted to remain here. The bishop recently has been ir. poor health.
