ENGINEERS FOR CLOSER STREET Organization Reads ResoI lution to City Council. Members of the Indianapolis chapter of the American Association of Engineers carried the fight to allow Oriental St. to be closed when track elevation takes place to city council Monday night, with reading of a resolution adopted at a recent meeting. The resolution says in part : “Since the present track elevation plans provide that Arsenal Ave. to open froip Washington'St. to Southeastern Ave. and provides that Leota St. be open from Bates St. to Southeastern Ave., and further provides an outlet from S. Oriental St. to Leota St. “Therefore, be it resolved that Oriental St. should be closed at Southeastern Ave. only on condition that the outlets and openings mentioned as contemplated in first paragrsrph above be actually provided.”
MAN HULLS SON, WIFE AND SELF Maniac Also Wounds Four Other Children. Bu United Press MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., July 7. i Crazed by heat, Ernest Franzen, 41, llaborer, slashed his wife and one Fchlld to death with a butcher knife, wounded four other children and committed suicide early today. Franzen filled his wife, Ellen, 39. and one sort, Morris, 9, before the other four children were awakened Screaming in terror the, four elder children ran to the street in theynight clothes, but all were seriously injured. Passing motorists attracted by the children’s cries, summoned the police. Ethel, 11, is in a critical condition suffering from knife wounds in the neck. Ingard, 1 6, Helmar, 15, and Margaret, 13, were cut seriously about the head and body, FRENCH FEAR MUTINY Vative Troops Reported Ready to Join Rebels. Bn United Press PARIS, July 7.—French headluarters in Morocco are striving hard to keep tribes around Taza loyal to France. Fez dispatches today related that there is question whether native troops there will declare themselves for France or threw themselves with Abd El Krim, R,fflan rebel leader. Decision of the tribes is not expected within two days. In preparation for eventualities, women and children began excavating Taza last night. Meantime, French have put Gen-l-eral Stanislaus Naulin, World War veteran, in command of military operations,' relieving Marshal Leyauty, who will direct civil government.

Bn United Press CHICAGO, July 7.—Reopening of the Dean O’Nativia brokerage firm, one of the largest in the country, which closed last week with liabilities of $35,001,000, was. anticipated in financial circles today following a series of conferences in' which the necessary capital to meet creditors demands is said to have been raised. Creditors, it is reported, have pledged 20 per cent of their claims and friends of the company have subscribed $300,000, enough to meet outstanding obligations. i WEED CUTTERS READY City Willi Send Out Force of Sixteen After July 10. Sixteen city weed cutters are read to take the field against the obnoxious vegetation growing on vacant lots, which have been neglected by their owners, Martin J. Hylland. city street commissioner, announced today. The ten days of grace, allowed from July 1 to property owrlers, will expire Friday, and after that date the city will mow the weeds and send the bill to the lot owner. A fund of $2,160 has been set aside to pay the city weed cutters.
ABANDONBREAD INDUSTRY PROBE Three (Investigations Ordered by Senate Dropped. Bu United Press WASHINGTON, July 7—The Federal Trade Commission's investigations of the bread industry, the farm cooperative movement and part of the “power trust,” ordered by Senate resolutions, have been abandoned. The commissione’s appropriations for the fiscal year started last year do not allow for any “economic in vestigation unless violation of the anti-trust laws is speciafically charged or unless the probe was ordered by a joint congressional resolution.” The discontinued investigations were ordered by Senate resolution, which did not charge such violations, Commissioner Van Fleet explained to the United Press.
