STEADY PRICES RULE IN HOG MARKET
STOCKS GIVE NO HEED TO RATIO DROP Slignt Gains Chalked Up by Railroads at Opening. Average Stock Prices Average price of twenty industrial stocks for Friday. July 3. was 131.53. oS .23. Average price of twenty rails for Friday. July 3. was 99.08. up .23. Ru United Press NEW YORK, July 3.—Stocks gave no attention at the opening to the falling off in the ratio in the New York Federal reserve bank to 78.8 against 83.8 a week ago, as it was wholly due to the shifting of credits incident to half yearly adjustments. In the absence of important news developments, active issues continued the movements in progress at the previous close, embracing rather heavy pre-holiday profit-taking among the industrials and steady buying of rails. Mack Truck lost close to a point to 177 Ta and Studebaker a half to 48%. In the railroad list fractional gains were scored by New York Central, Northern Pacific and other recent features. Further selling under the rule kept the general list in an irregular condition in the- late morning. However, these offerings were swallowed without important recessions even in the stocks directly affected and buying operations continued in many sections of the list. Southern Railway assumed the place occupied by Frisco common in the previoqs session at the head of the movement of the rail group, moving up to within fractional distance of recent high of 99%. Local Bank Clearings Indianapolis bank clearing for Friday, July 3. amounted to $4.532.000. Bank debits were $7,443,000. Bank clearings for the week ending today totaled $lB.033.000. Bank debite for the week ending today were $37,798,000.
GRAINS HAVE FRACTION LOSS Wheat Stages Rally at Close of Market. Du United Press CHICAGO, July 3.—Grains lost fractionally in today’s session on the Board of Trade. W r heat was most active. It started higher, slumped at midday and in final trading staged a good comeback to within a fraction of the opening. Wheat continued to maintain the erratic undertone. Breaks ran into supporting ordyu% bulges into profits. There v.fis a fair amount of evening up. Crop news was decidedly mixed. Shifting of interests in the suspended firm of Bean O’Nitivia was an unsettling factor. High temperatures in the Southwest boosted corn early. Eater this grain slipped off when wheat turned weak and May checked up losses for the day. Oats ruled strong, but they too lost in late trading with other grains. Good buying of lard by local interests anct higher hogs hosted provisions. Chicago Grain Table —July 3 Last Open. High. Low. Trade Reviews Say
By American Lumberman There has been a marked decline in output of large southern pine mills, owing to low prices realized. Os eighty-seven mills reporting running time for the week mentioned, six were shut down and fifty-one were running three to five days only. Ordinarily the mills cut 20 per cent more than they dispose of during the first four month the year, but for the first tw iy-four weeks of this year they hi icut only about 4 per cent more. 3 ring the succeeding three months i,hey usually sell 25 per cent more an they cut, but it will be imposs k for them to supply quantities like that this fall. For the week ended June 19 they shipped 9.81 per cent more than they cut, and received orders for 8.82 per cent more. Some price advances have been .made, and others are in early prospect.

In the Sugar Market
(By Thomson & McKinnon) Except for the first crop estimate for next year, there is little in the overnight news of interest in the sugar trade. One agency forecasts that _the Great Western expects to harvest 225,000 tons of beets the coming season against 381.000 last year. The approaching doublo holiday will probably restrict business to a large extent. —\ O Os Interest tJ/O on Checkwjtfccojjnfs J.F.WILV&Co. - 4 STATE BANK A V/ 23 E. Market St. New Arrivals.
