REPORT ON PAY FOR PROBATION WORK PREPARED \ ' County Head Says Increase Has Been Made in Other Places. Probation officers of Marlon County Juvenile Court are underpaid, according to a report to be made by Miss Isabelle Somerville, chief probation officer, Saturday at the conference of the State Probation Officers' Association at Ft. Wayne, Ind. Miss Somerville, chairman of the legislative committee of the association, will report on the statute passed by the last Legislature granting increased salaries to probation officers In counties having a population of more than 100.000. 1 While this act affected officers in ten other counties besides Marion, the local county is the only one failing to give raises. Other counties have increased the chief probation officer’s salary to $2,500 and those of assistants to SI,BOO. While local officers still receive $1,500 for chief probation officer and $l,lOO for assistants. Increases Granted Counties granting Increases are: Lake, Allen, Vanderberg, Vigo, St. Joseph; Delaware, Elkhart, Grant, La Porte and Madison. Miss Somerville, who has been working In local juvenile court for thirteen years, said in other counties the salary raise was granted by the
