MOTHERS WILL RECEIVE AIDOF CITY IN CLINICS Board of Health to Fight for Right of Child to Be Well Born. , The right of the child tp be well '■ born, sound of mind and body, will ibe fought for by the city board of * health. Dr. Herman G. Morgan, city health officer, said today. Through operation of newly estab- ’ llshed pre-natal clinics, Dr. Morgan ■ said he hoped to reduce the death 1 rate among Indianapolis children from seventy-six to fifty a thousand. Rate Reduced The average national death rate of 629 cities, compiled by the American Child Health Association, was 72.2 per thousand last year. During ten years measures of sanitation have reduced the death rate from 139. Only 15 per ctent of expectant mothers make regular visits to phyteicians during the pre-natal period, according to Dr. Morgan; 40 per cent see the dootor at irregular intervals, while 45 per cent receive no care from physicians until the day the child is born. To Hold Clinics Regular clinics will be held at city hospital and various dispensaries, to aifford treatment to those unable to pay for the services of a physician, and special attention will be paid to matters of diet and exercise. Treatment will continue after the child Is horn to insure that there is iio 111 effect to the mother. It is hoped to prevent many cases of cancer through medical supervision. ACTION ON SMOKE CODE Not Much Authority But Will Go After Violators. “tVe haven't a great deal of authority under present regulations, but bur department will take action against some oft he most flagrant violktors of the smoke code,” said H. •F.
