Trafficman Finds People Funny Has to Answer Many Queer Questions While on Duty.

He had a 1920 license on his automobile. “ ‘Say, man, it’s about time you got 1921 license plates,’ I told him. ’lt's another year now, you know.’ “ ‘Oh, but I don’t live in this city,’ the driver replied. “ ‘Well, you live in this State, don’t you? “ ‘No, I don’t live in this State, I live in Kokomo.’ ” Another time a man who had lived in Indianapolis twenty years asked where the Indiana Trust Bldg, was located. At other times people will stand and look at Block’s store building or the Interurban station, and then ask where they are. Looked at Monument "One time during the Stata Fair — it \vas two years ago this fall, X think —I saw three fellows eating popcorn and standing looking up at the Monument. They would eat popcorn awhile, and then talk to each other. Finally one bird came out to me and asked: “Say, Mister, who lives up there?" ‘and he pointed at the top of the Monument. Carey said he started to grow' angry, thinking the man was joking him, but finally saw he was in earnest. "Not wishing to disillusion the lads, I told them the Governor of Indiana lived up there. " ‘Well, we thought somebody did, because we can see somebody out on the porch,’ the young man replied.” “Another tirfte a man from out in the sticks somewhere came up to me and said: ‘Where is the Lime-Ox?’ "How do you spell it? I countered, knowing he meant some building. “ ‘I can’t read or write, but I got it wrote down here,” he said, and fished out a card with ‘Lemcke Annex' written on it. “And I’ll tell you, buddy, if the people on foot were half as careful as the automobile drivers there would be no accidents to pedestrians to speak of. Why, I taw a man and woman walk smacii into the Bide of a fish wagon the other day.” NEW SCHOOL DENIED State Tax Board Disapproves Proposed Bond Issue.
