W.C.T.U. WOMAN SENTENCED, ILL Given 180 Days on Liquor Charge. Bv Timet Special VALPARAISO, Ind., June 18.— Journey of Mrs. Catherine Cassler of Hebron, Ind., prominent W. C. T. U. worker, to the Indiana "Woman’s Prison at Indianapolis, was halted today by her serious illness caused when Judge Hershman of Crown Point sentenced her to 180 days on a licuor charge. She pleaded guilty to ownership of liquor. "When first arrested, police said she told them she was a Federal officer and had seized the liquor in a raid. Funds had been raised by the W. C. T. U. for her defense.

LABOR SURPLUS BEING ABSORBED Coal Industry Undergoes Un- _ usually Bad Slump. By C A, Ran da u Timet Staff Corretpondent WASHINGTON, D. C., June 17. Usually bad times in the bituminous coal industry have brought about a considerable surplus of labor in Indiana the Department of Labor reported today in its monthly summary of employment conditions. “A small surplus of common labor continues to exist throughout Indiana,” the report states, “but this surplus is steadily being absorbed.” One of the outstanding employment problems is the unemployment existing among miners in the mining regions. "Although there was some curtailment in May in iron and steel, this industry is still operating on good production figures and full employment is reported. “Building tradesmen, and highly skilled automobile mechanics are in demand and the auto industry in particular enjoying boom times,” this summer. The Department reported a labor surplus in Indianapolis owing to the fact that a glove facory, furniture factory and foundry are on part time. SEARCH FOR KIDNAPER Two S;.
