HUERTA SEEKS CASH TO AID NEW UPRISING Former Mexican President Makes Unostentious Visit to U. S. By William Philip Simms WASHINGTON, June 17.—Adolfe de la Huerta, who launched the formidable Mexican, revolution of December, 1923, and who by May, 1924, very nearly had President Obregon crushed, Is now in this country, the writer is informed, quietly conferring with his friends. De Da Huerta after being made provisional president, became minister of under Obregon. Later he rer er>ed and became Obregons bitter enemy. The writers' informant state De La Huerta recently paid a quiet visit to Washington, where he held a number of conference with fijiancial interests then slipped out as quietly as he had come, with only a handful of people knowing he had either come or gone. / Has Wide Credit No one acquainted with the Mexican situation, however, believes De La Huerta could get sufficient backing here or at home to start another revolution in Mexico. He still enjoys considerable reputation as a financial expert, though, thanks to his deals with Banker Thomas Lamont for the adjustment of Mexico’s foreign debt, and he might prove a powerful friend for somebody to have on his side. If President Calles finds it impossible to retain power, several men are mentioned by those in touch with the situation as a possible successor. Among these are Gen. Angel Flores, who ran against Callas last year, and Luis Morones, minister of labor and known as the Samuel Gompers of Mexico, and Obregon himself. General Flores is favorite. Active Contestant Like President Calles, General Flores is of humble origin and won his fame in the Madero-Carranza-Obregon revolutions. But he is probably a shade more conservative. Every bit Calles’ equal as to ability, quite as good a general and said to be a stronger character, Flores’ party claims Calles used fraud, violence and intimidation to win the election and proposed a national referendum to prove Flores had really won. It was then considered certain that Flores would launch a revolution to prevent Calles’ 'inauguration, but Flores himself prevented it. At that time the Obregon-Calles combination had Che active support of the United States. That support may be withdrawn from Calles. If so it would seem to be Flores opportunity.
