U. S. Steel was quiet and rather heavy, selling at 114%, down to 113%. The market closed irregular. Local Bank Clearings Indianapolis bank clearings Saturday were $2.525.0000. It was said by some of the buyers, the drop was due to an Increase in receipts and a decrease in demand. The unusually large holdover, 3.810, from Friday was also largely responsible for the drop. Receipts were estimated ai 5.000. The market moved on an even scale with heavies, mediums, lights, and light lights all clearing at $12.25. While pigs brought $U.50@12, sows [email protected], roughs $10.50011.75 and stags were still quoted at sß@ll. The tone of the market was slow with local packers offering a price of $12.15. Top price was sft.3s. Light fat steers moved with a price of $7.75010.60. The whole cattle market moved slowly as Is usual on Saturday. Best heifers, although scarce, moved rapidly when ever they were brought on the market for $10.25. Much of the inferior stock commanded- a price ranging from s3<& 8 and ss@lo. Receipts were estimated to be around 200 heads In the pens. With a light run of about 400 calves on the market a drop of 50c In price was recorded. Traders can depend on an unusually fast or slow market on Saturday, and because of the low receipts today, the tone of the market was slow and draggy, with a top price of $9.50 being offered. The bulk of the sales cleared at $9. Medium grade calves were quoted at $S@9 and the common run moved off slowly at $507. A steady but slow tone marked ihe sheep market today. With receipts estimated at 150 to 200, the best grade of lambs moved at sl4 and sheep were quoted at $3.5006. The Saturday market was responsible for the check in the steady drop that has been recorded all week. —Hog*— Medium* 12.40012.50 Light hog* 12.60 I.’ght light* 12 25012.60 Smooth sow* 11.00011.50 Rough sou* 10.500 1100 Pg* 11.75(312.25 —Catt It— Good to choice fat steer*. .SIO.OO 0 10.25 Medium eteer* 8:50$ 9.50 Prime baby beef heifers and •teer* 10.75 Good heifers 1... 8 50010.50 Common to fair heifer* ... 0.000 7.00 Prime fat cow* 8:50 Fedium cow* 4.75@ 6.00 Canuer and cutter cow*... 2.25® 1.25 —Calves— Fancy veal# $lO 00 Good veals 10.00 Medium calves 8.000 9.00 Common calves 5.00 @ 7.0 u —Bhee nand Lambs— Spring lamb*, choice $14.00 Medium* 9.00011.40 Good to choice sheep 5.000 6.00 Fair t omedium 3.50® 4.50 Other Live Stock CHICAGO. WHEW! THIS IS HEALTHY TIME, But Dr. Morgan Gives Swimming Warning. This Is the healthiest season of the year, according to Dr. Herman G. Morgan, city health officer. Smaller number of diseases are reported to the board during torrid season than at any other period of the year, he said. Indianapolis citizens are far safer in bathing in a hog wallow than in some of the streams near the city where open sewers contaminate the water with typhoid bacilli, Morgan asserted in reiteration of his warning to bathe in supervised pools and beaches. 39 LEGAL NOTICES CITY ADVERTISEMENT \ DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS OFFICE OF THE BOARD Indianapolis, bid..
