COLD WEATHER 1$ BLAMED FOR GRADING DELAY Not Alibi, but Actual State of Affairs, Mr. Fixit Is Told. Mr. Fixit is your ambassador at the * city hall. He will investigate any complaints in regard to conditions of streets, alleys and other thoroughfares and will ■ try to obtain fast service for you. Write him in care of The Indianapolis Times. Cold weather this spring delayed grading of Indianapolis street several weeks. This it not an alibi, but is the actual state of affairs, according to William Schoenrogg, .chief clerk of the street inspector’s department. For this reason the graders have not arrived on many streets where repairs are needed badly. Mr. Fixit has referred the following letter to Schoenrogg, who will order the grading as soon as possible: Dear Mr. Fixit —Will you please help us to get Sangster Ave graded and oiled? There are two grocery stores in three blocks on this street and the big wholesale trucks use this street altogether. In dry weather we residents have to live behind closed doors and windows to avoid the dust. SANGSTER AVE. RESIDENTS. Dear Mr. Fixit: We, the residents of Central Ave., north of the Canal and residents of Sixth-Third St., urge that our street be oiled at an early date as the dust is unbearable. The streets have all been graded in Warfleigh in the last few weeks. Thanking you for your prompt attention, we are, RESIDENTS OF CENTRAL NORTH OF CANAL AND RESIDENTS OF SIXTYTHIRD ST. Street commissioner's office will oil your district wnen warmer weather comes. Car of oil will be swiflphed at Broad Ripple and distribution made from there. J., will head the colorful convention parade of the nation’s wounded and disabled world war veterans, Tuesday, June 23, the second day of the fifth annual national convention of the Disabled American Veterans, here, June 22 to 27. Following the blinded veterans will parade the legless and armless, those who have suffered and are still suffering serious internal injuries, and many thousands of other wounded and disabled world war heroes. The division will be headed by National Commander Frank J. Irwin of New York City, wounded wearer of the distinguished service cross, ai\d Past National Commanders and the National Offices of the disabled men’s society. Dr. George Calvert of Syracuse, N. The Warsaw city council at the suggestion of Councilman Walter Kinizel is considering action looking to the appointment by the mayor of twentyfive secret volunteer policemen, who will he delegated to rigidly enforce the traffic ordinance here. It is pointed out that speeding is an uninterrupted pasttime on the part of many Warsaw automobile drivers. It would be the duty of the secret policemen to “stop” the violators of the traffic and State automobile laws, report the cases to the mayor, who would summon the violators before him and reprimand or fine them.

Adams Walsh of Hollywood, giant center, and captain of Rockne’s championship Irish eleven last year, was married shortly before Notre Dame went to California last fall. Now Cupid has pierced the heart of Clem Crowe of Lafayette, Ind., captain-elect of the Notre Dame team next year. Crowe will marry Miss Mary Griffin Mulherin at Lafayette June 13. Miss Mulherin is an instructor at Purdue. The wedding is result of high-school romance.

More than a week has expired since the polar aviators jumped off from King's Bay, Spitsbergen. Preparations for a Norwegian relief expedition are in full swing. Trained flyers are In readiness, the same ones who were in 1923 at Spifczbergen when Amundsen's proposed flight from Alaska across the pole was postponed. Since Amundsen left instructions that a few weeks could elapse before anxiety need he felt, It Is now planned to scout Ice floes beyond Spitsbergen. C., recelpent of the Laetare medal of 1925, given annually by academy council of University of Notre Dame to some American Catholic who has won distinction In arts, literature or science, will receive the Medal at Uotre Dame on June 12, as part of commencement program. It will be presented by Rev. Mathew Walsh, president of the university. Dr. Zahm was named for his distinguished work In aerial navigation. He was graduated from Notre Dame in 1883 and served there as professor. While student at Notre Dame he experimented with aerial gliders from windows on science hall even before creations of Wright Brothers and Langley were introduced.
