LESS). BARRIER MIGHT PREVENT HEDGE CUTTING Complaint Made to Mr. Fixit on Bad Corner Will Be Investigated. Mr. Fixit. a member of the Indian•poll* Times staff, will investigate need of public improvements in all parts of the city when they are called to bis attention. Write him at the Times office and your complaint will receive prompt attention. Mr. Fixit some times encounters a legal barrier to his efforts to- obtain needed reforms and can only suggest possible procedure to overcome the handicap. Such a case was revealed in a letter from Dr. A. M. Mendenhall, 333-40 Bankers Trust Bldg. His letter follows: Dear Mr. Fixit: The records of the Indianapolis Police Department should show the.t the last five years have seen not less than eight or ten automobile accidents at Thirty-Third St. and Park A^e. Only yesterday two cars were pretty thoroughly demolished there. Hast fall a wreck occurred in which a man was Seriously injured. If you will take the trouble to drive north on Park Ave., you will note that' you can not see anything approaching from the left on Thirty-Third St. You will note that it Is impossible to get a view of Park Ave., until you are well out into the street. All this Is caused by a high hedge on the southwest corner of ThirtyThird St. and Park Ave. I haVe once before communicated with the traffic department and received a very courteohs reply to the effect that insofar as this was private property, they could not compel the owner to cut down the hedge. Owners can be compelled to close saloons, stop factories and other nuisances, even though they are privately owned. There must be some law which could compel these persons to cut that hedge. I wish to assure you that I have no personal grudge against these ■ persons, as I do not even know them. Mr. Fixit agrees with you and congratulates you upon your public spirit in calling his attention to this dangerous condition. The legal situation is as you have described it. However, Mr. Fixit will make an appeal to Ernest H, Kingston, president of the board of safety, to bring the matter to the attention of that body at its next meeting. From his lnvesigation Mr. Fixit is of the opinion that It may be possible to have the hedge removed as a public nuisance. Dear Mr. Fixit: Will you please have the Hoosier Motor Club place slow signs at Villa Ave. and Orange Bt.? This morning a Ford was knocked to pieces at this corner. DEO BESSEDMAN, 1304 Villa Ave. The location will he viewed within the next few days by O. C. Trautwein, service manager of the JTocrier Motor Club, who will decide whether there is enough traffic at this intersection to warrant placing the signs. The club has Installed signs near Villa Ave. and Prospect St. Because there are insufficient funds in the budget of the street lighting department, Mr. Fixit's efforts to obtain additional street lights have been temporarily halted. He has added to the enumerous requests received by James Hensley, superintendent of street lighting, a letter from a. Wonder, asking lights on Riverside bridge and a corner light at Thirtieth St. and Riverside Blvd. Eight requested by Allie E. Williams, 3053 Euclid Ave., for that thoroughfare, between School and Lancaster Sts., also was placed on the- waiting list.
