POPPY SALE TO HELPVETERANS Will Be Sold on Streets Week Before Memorial Day. “Buddy” poppies will be sold on the streets of Indianapolis Saturday, a week before Memorial day, as part of the annual natione.i Poppy day for the benefit of disabled World War veterans. The sale here will be In charge of Hoosier Post No. 624, Cross of Malts and Lavelle, Gossett posts, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Indianapolis ; chapter No. 1, Disabled Veterans of the World War. Members of Job’s Daughters of Indianapolis will sell the poppies for Hoosier post, and women of the auxiliaries of the other organizations will serve as ‘‘saleswomen.” Buddy popples are made by disabled veterans. S. H. S. CLOSING PROGRAM GIVEN Senior Final Exams Week of May 25. Shortridge High School officials today announced the calendar for closing events of the semester. Final examinations for the seniors will be held during the week of May 25; xaminatlons for other students, the of June 1. The annual initiation banquet of the school faculty for the members of the National Honor Society will be Wednesday evening May 17, at the Spink Arms. MANY JOBLESS IN HOLLYWOOD Employment Agencies Help Keep ’Em Poor. Bv Timet Special LOS ANGELES, May 22.—Hundreds of men and women, young and old, are out of work In Hollywood, and more are flocking weekly to the world’s movie capital In fruitless search of fame and fortune. Many are being partly employed at day labor as “extras” in mob scenes and at other pick-ups, while many others are living precariously near the hunger line. The fifty thousand “extras” living in and about Hollywood are prey to unsburpulous private employment agencies, fake schools for movie actors and actresses, and other forms of exploitation. There are thirty-three private employment agencies whose managers live and wax rich from the “extras" alone. These concerns charge per cent on the wages of the supers, and collect 50 cents from each $5 a day earned.
