SHEPHERD TRIAL OPENS MOHDAY; COUNSEL READY Typewriters, Tickers and Cameras Barred From Courtroom. V Bi/ United Press CHICAGO, May 15.—With both sides announcing readiness, Judge Thomas J. Lynch of the criminal court today cleared his docket in preparation for the sensational Shepherd “germ r- jrder" trial scheduled for Monday. William D. Shepherd, former Inlianapolis man, charged with Idling his youthful ward, Billy McCMntock to obtain the McCUntock fortune he was extremely confident of acquittal. W. W. O’Brien, one of the defense attorneys, declared no effort would oe made for a continuance. “We are ready,”. he 4Said. “Well take the first twelve men called for jury service .If the State accepts them.” George B. Gorman, first assistant State's attorney will have active charge of the case. He will be assisted by several aides. State’s Attorney Robert E. Crowe who personally directed the prosecution in 'the famous Leopold-Loeb murder case will act In an advisory capacity. Officials es-imate it will take from two to four weeks to select a jury md three to four week for the trial.
