SMOG CAMPAIGN NEEDSWORKERS Mot Enough Cooperation, Says Inspector. Co-operation may be practical la other walks of life, but It has only partially succeeded In attempts made to rid Indianapolis of the clouds of smog that obscure the sun’s rays in winter time, according to H. F. Templeton, city smoke inspector. / “TVhile some of the more publicsplr'.ted heads of large Industrial establishments have installed smoke preventive devices and have aided our campaign through weight of tMlr influence on other persons, a large number of offenders have continued to pollute the air with smoke from their establishments,’’ Templeton said. "Services of our department for consultation and advice have been offered continuously to those who wish to co operate In removing this menace to the public health. Many of them would profit financially from Installation of smoke-prevent-ing devices; yei in most cases, firms have refused, to take advantage of our offers.” LIEBER GIVES ADDRESS Speaks Before Indiana Academy of Science Session. Du Times Special MADISON, Ind., May 15.—" Our misconduct in nature is grave when viewed in the light of economic experience,” declared Richard Lieber, director of the Indiana department of conservation, in an address Thurday night before the Indiana Academy of Science, meeting in spring session at Clifty Falls State Park. Two paralleling evils, a colossal waste and a ruthless interference with the biological economy of nature, have shown themselves, Lieber said. In man’s wasteful methods he has made the excuse that nature, herself, is prodigal, but in the last essence nature proves the perfect economy of her household by leaving nothing to waste, he said. ZIX IS PLACED IN JAIL Henry Zix, 20, of 1722 S. Meridian Bt., is in Marion County Jail today held, in default of $2,500 bond, to the Federal grand jury on a charge of violating the national motor vehicle theft act. He is alleged to have taken a stolen automobile from Indianapolis to Cincinnati, Ohio. ♦♦♦♦♦*♦♦♦♦♦♦
