STREETS BEING PEPAREDFOR f RACE TRAFFIC Department Concentrates on Finishing Work by ‘ May 30. With mainly traveled routes from the center of the city to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in good condition, city street department is concentrating on finishing repairs to other Speedway lanes before the big race May 30, Frank Reid, inspector of city streets, said today. Indiana Avenue, paved from Ohio St. to the race course, and W.. Thirtieth St., principal thoroughfares leading t ot.he home of the speed event, will afford uninterrupted progress for motorists, Reid said. Paving on Tenth However, the W. Tenth St. route will be unavailable because paving .s under construction from White River to Tibbs Ave. This will not be completed for many months. Workmen are doing double time on repairs to W. Michigan St. from Tibbs to Olio Aves., and are expected to finish the Jcb Saturday. Grading is in progress on Tibbs Ave. from Washington to Sixteenth Sts., a route used by motorists who drive west on Washington St. to the Speedway. This work will not be completed until a week b? fore the race, according to Reid. County Responsible County road officials are responsible for repair of the bridge over Little Eagle Creek on W. Vermont St., Reid declared. The bridge was washed out several months ago, but has not yet been reconstructed. Motorists who drive west on Washington St. will witness scenes of destruction to lawns -and sidewalks necessitated by installation of new lighting standards, but the street itself will be passable. Six cars of oil are scheduled to leave Shrevepmc, La., today for this city. They will be used by county ntid Speedway officials to oil the unpaved in vicinity of the motor track. City workmen will perform the actual labor. City is to receive compensation for labor oerformed outside the city limits "City streets are in the best con lltion for the Speedway event in many years.” Reid said. U. T. C.
