C. M. Scherer, principal of the Davy Institute of Tree Surgery, Kent, Ohio, spoke' at auditorium exercises Wednsday. Members of the R. O. T. C. Officers’ Club motored to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Wednesday to witness a j. ,rade by 3d Battalion of the 11th Infanry. Musical organizations gave a music program at auditorium exercises, Friday morning. Numbers were given by the orchestra and the girls’ glee club. Minnie Shaner gave a vocal solo. George Clayton won the presidency of the Shortridge Senate at its Friday meeting. Edward Cohn was elected vice president; Tevie Jacobs, secretary; Albert Levi, read-ing-clerk; Arta Weyant, page, and David Venerable, custodian. Miss Laura Donnan, censor, gave plans for the annual Senate banquet. Following appointments of committees for the affair were made; Program: David Venerabe, chairman; Morris Feuerlicht; Vernon An derson; Collier Young; decoration: Virginia Perkins, chairman; Katie Vermillion, and Harold Cohen; arrangements: Tevie Jacobs, chairman; Albert Levi, Arta Weyant, and Dallas Burves. Barbara Blatt and Hilda Renchen, chemistry lIA students, under Frank Wade, have published account of their experiment testing salt for the presence of iodine in the leading American chemical journal, "The Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemicals.” Senior girls are trying out for parts in the girls’ class day stint. Facea Charges of Pardon Bribe

Russell Davis, son of former Governor Jonathan M. Davis of Kansas, is facing trial with hi father and Carl J. Peterson, bank commissioner, for alleged graft in pardoning criminals. Young Davis is charged specifically with receiving $1,250 for delivering a pardon to Fred W. Pollmank, bank president convicted of forgery.
The dancing will be coached by Louise Pursell Powell. Those trying out are Mary Alice Planque, Minnie Shaner, Marie Wagnon, Xathrene McLandress, Alice Ball, Alpha Bassett. Rats chewing on matches started a stubborn fire at a Kroger grocery, 3001 Central Ave., early today. According to firemen, the blaze started in the rear of the one-story brick structure in a pile of rubbish. Blaze was finally brought under control after nearly an hour’s battle. Prompt action by firemen held the fire damage to the building and stock to a nominal loss, although it is expected that the smoke and water damage to stock will reach S3OO. KLAN FOE RETURNS Sheriff of "Bloody Wr.liam.son" County Back oh Job Again. Bit United Press MARION. 111., May 13.—Sheriff George Galhgan, foe of the Klan in Williamson county, has returned to take over his duties after a “vacation” lasting since the hate war in Herrin, in which S. Glenn Young was slain. He left here Feb. 10, after an agreement with the board of supervisors and Governor Len Small. DISCLOSURES EXPECTED Witness Testifies as to Message Calling for $1,260 Alleged Bribe. Bo United Press TOPEKA, Kan., Maay 13.—Further disclosures in connection with the alleged sale of pardons and paroles by former Governor Jonath in M. Davis, on trial here charged w.th soliciting a bribe for pardon, were expected today. Testimony of Glenn Davis, exconvict. in which he declared he was the messenger sent by Governor Davis to Fred Pollman, also an exconvict, telling Pollman to “take $1,250 and see my son Russell,” in regard to obtaining a parole, was placed before the court. Hero’s Body Is Found Bv Times Soecial HUNTINGTON, Ind., May 13. Court Scott had word today that tthe body of his son, Graham, one of the first. Huntington soldiers to be killed in 'the World War had been found. The body will be buried again in Aisne-Marne cemetery at Belleau Wood.
