CAUTION IN BUS, TRACTION FIGHT (Continued FYom Pace 1) route or a definite schedule, come under provisions of the law. Other carriers coming under public control, according to Gilllom's Interpretation of the law, and who will he required to obtain certificates of convenience and necessity, follow: Milk carriers who operate over fixed lines on a more or less regular schedule; lice stock carriers who haul stock at regular Intervals but not on regular time schedules; carriers of merchandise on a more or less regular schedule between central distributing points and stores in surrounding cities; carries of passengers in cities, except when under contract with municipalities, but operation under a license Issued pursuant to the provisions of a licensing ordinance is not operating under or by color of a contract. City officials injected another snarl into the situation when Charles A. Bookwalter, president of the park board, declared today that Meridian St., north of Fall Creek will never be used by busses because they are “heavy traffic." One of the proposed lines of the Peoples Motor Coach Company will go out Meridian from the Circle to the canal, thence to Broad Ripple.

“Meridian is a boulevard north of Fall Creek, and the park board will never let the bars down to heavy traffic, which includes bus lines," said Bookwalter. Congestion of the Circle with the ten lines of the Peoples Motor Coach Company and the three of the street car company proposed, was another of the problems to be solved. A. Smith Bowman, president of the Peoples Motor Coach Company, r,aid today he would file liability and property damage insurance with the commission immediately. "We intend to comply with any requirements of the commission in this respect,” he said. “Just what the next move will be I do not know. We, of course, intend to take every step to protect our rights in this matter. Our company already has a very considerable investment in motor busses and we are willing to mrtke move. "I suppose the next step is up to the commission in setting a date for hearing." Attack upon the coach company was made Thursday by the Indianapolis Street Railway Company in a pro|est to the commission against granting a certificate of necessity and convenience to the coach company. The protest was based on six groi nds. Among them were that the coach company is not operating lawfully as it has not complied with requirements of the law; that it has been conducting service “without contract or color of contract with the city of Indianapolis.” Both the street car and coach companies filed petitions for certifi-
cates revering the same bus routes on the north an deast sides. Each company names substantially the same three routes, all operating from Monument Circle, one to Central Ave. and Fifty-Fourth St.; one to Riverside Pack and the third on E. New York St. to Emerson Ave. Interrurban bus operators come within the ninety day clause of the new bus law. Attorney General | Arthur 1,. Gillion held Thursday ir. : an opinion to the commission.
