CITY EXPECTS TO BOOST PAY > FROM GARBAGE By-Products From Waste Find Ready Market, Says Official. When the housewife throws the garbage Into the can, ehe believes that action Is the end of the matter. But the city of Indianapolis has another use for the cast-off food. Prom its conservation, thousands of dollars may be saved, according to Russell T. Mac Fall, president of the board of sanitary commissioners. SIO,OOO Profit Through operation of the rending plant at the city garbage dump last year, profit of? 10-000 was achieved and this amount will be greatly increased this year, according to MacFall. Principal market for conserved garbage comes from the sale of grease and tankage. One of the largest soap manufacturers in the country, whose product was emphasized in the public’s opinion, because it floats, pays cents a pound. Fertilizer makers buy tankage for $6 a ton. Feed for Hogs With installation of new machine, sanitary commissioners hope to sell fct.housn.nds of dollars worth of feed Jfor hogs and chickens. City collected 23.000 tons of garbage last year, but private collectors gathered 12,000 tons which they used to feed hogs and chickens. Board of sanitary commissioners proposes to drive the independent collectors from the Held, thereby adding a considerable sum of money i to the conservation total.
