WRITE HOME TO MOTHER SUNDAY ARMY IS TOLD > - Wdiers Take Lead in Plans to Observe “Carnation Day.” Bu Time* Special WASHINGTON, May B.—The hard-boiled army is taking the lead this year in making plans for the pbservation of Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10. In fact, there is a strong belief throughout the 'whole V' r ar Department that the day is of special significance to officers, soldiers and veterans of our battlefields at home and abroad. This feeling is explained somewhat as follows: In 1914, Mother's Day was created by a joint resolution of congress. President Wilson ordered flags t to be displayed on all government buildings on that, date and it was suggested that private homes also put out the national colors. Home and Mother Why the flags? What is the connection? Mother,. home and patriotism aie inseparable in the human mind. Home and mother are always uppermost in the thoughts of the soldier. It has been a yearly order from the Secretary of War to ail men In the army that they shall write to their mothers on Mother’s Day. This same order will be issued this year. >ln addition, at every post, camp and fort where troops are stationed, there will bo this year special demonstrations and ceremonies where Gold sitar Mothers will be guests of honor, and to which all mothers of soldiers will bo especially invited, whether they are mothers of soldiers of the local command, mothers of soldiers stationed elsewhere, or mothers of veterans. The mothers will take dinner with the troops on that, day and in most cases probably will review a parade in honor of soldiers' mothers. Decorate Graves Where ther are cemeteries near the posts in which mothers of solfilers are bi riefi, these graves will be decorated. Cooperating with the Army in its demonstrations of affection and appreciation for the mothers of the soldiers of America are the following organizations: “Woman’s Overseas Service League, Service Star Legion, American War Mothers and tho General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Negotiations for purchare of the lot no northwest corner, 120X270 feet, are being made. Building will start early next spring, it was announced. Committees are working on plans. Dr. Ernest N.
