Operators Under Tension “Picture their nerve tension twice during the past two years when every bit of fire equipment has responded to alarms, and there was nothing to send, even had there been a disastrous downtown blaze,” Berry said. “Fortunately, companies returned to their stations before other alarms were recorded.” "Screams of fire victims and those afraid the blaze will trap them are audible over the wire in some cases.” Minutes are magnified into hours when your house is burning down, the veteran engineer believes.
