BELL COMPANY MAKESREPORT President Gives Figures for For Year 1924. An average of 1,178,183 messages were handled daily In the State by the Indiana Bell Telephone Company In 1924, according to report made publlo today by C. H. Rottger, president. On Deo. 31, 1924, there were 178,864 telephone stations owned by the company, operated through eighty-seven central offices. Net earnings for the year averaged 4.5 per cent on the book-value of the property, It Is shown in the report. After paying lnterpst there was available for dividends $349,842.79 or about 2.3 per cent on $15,000,000 par value of stock outstanding. No dividend was declared, however. During 1924 the company spent for new construction over $4,000,000, covering extensions, additions and renewals, largest amounts were $1,435,400 for central office equipment and $1,630.11>< fir exchange lines. Assets and liabilities totaled $37,897,553.94 on Dec. 31. 1924.

STATE POSTAL MEETING Employes to Gather Hero Tuesday— Speaker An non need. Congressman Clyde Kelly of Pennsylvania will speak at a mass meeting of Indiana postal employes at the Cadle Tabernacle Tuesday at 7:30 p. m., following a dinner at the Sererln. WATER PROBE IS ASKED Washington First City to Take Advantage of 1913 I Washington is the first city in the State availing itself of provisions of a 1913 law permitting 5 per cent of the voters of a municipality to petition the State board of health to investigate its water supply. Approximately 800 names appear on a petition filed with Dr. William F. King, secretary of the board, com plaining against the water supply and asking for an lnvestigat'on. Dr. King said he would assign men to the Job at once. Two Brought Back Detective Harry fy-ck was to arrive here today with Edward Pritchard and Clarence Davis, both of Vincennes. Ind. Men were arrested in Vincennes Wednesday, when police obtained Information that they had stolen an auto belonging to Morris Stegman, 322 E. Georgia St„ from Meridian and Maryland Sts., April 16, Warren School Play Senior class members of Warren township high school, E. Tenth St. and Ft. SHAW TO STAY HERE Governor Orders Him Held In Jail Until Final Data. On order of Governor Jackson, John Thomas Shaw, colored, alleged slayer of Mrs. Helen Hager Whelchel, will be held In the Marion County Jail until time of re-trial In Morgan Circuit Court. William H. Remy, prosecuting attorney, requested that Shaw be held here. Shaw was In the State Prison awaiting death sentence when State Supreme Court last month reversed conviction by Marlon Criminal Court and ordered anew trial. Judge James A. Collins sent the case to Morgan County on change of venue.
