CHART TRACES SOURCE OF ALL STATE MOREYS Auditor Also Shows Where Every Penny of Public’s Dollar Goes. In an interesting chart prepared by Lew S. Bowman, State auditor, the source and distribution of every dollar of public revenue collected in Indiana is ghown. Principal source of revenue, th 6 chart shows, is through direct taxation. By this means 41 cents of every dollar is raised, making an estimated total collection for 1925 of $14,000,000. The next greatest item of revnue is the 3-cent gasoline tax, through which $7,000,000 will be raised, or approximately 20 cents on each public dollar. Federal Aid Federal road aid gives 11 cents of every dollar raised, which will make about $3,700,000 in 1925, for State road construction. Auto license fees bring in about 9 Cents, or $3,250,000. Insurance fees, collected through the State insurance department, will amass approximately $1,300,000, or about 4 cents of the public dollar. Through the State inheritance tax the State will receive $1,000,000, or three cents of the total dollar. Office #dees will bring in a corresponding ftaount. Miscellaneous sources of Revenue account for nine cents of the public dollar, distributed in total amounts as follows: poll tax, $500,000: State institutions, $275,000; oil inspection fees, $225,000, and incidental amounts, $2,750,000. Bulk for Roads From a standpoint of distribution, the State highway commission receives the lion’s share of the same dollar when it is apportioned. Thirtyone cents, or about $11,000,00p, go directly Into road work. institutions follow, receiving a 17-cent slice, or about $6,000,00. State school revenues take 10 cents of the .dollar, totaling j|3.500,000. The State educational Institutions receive a 7-cent. portion, making a total of $2,500,000, and the teachers’ retirement fund gets a 3-cent share, or approximately $1,000,000. The remaining 32 cents is parceled out as follows: State prison binder twine fund, $500,000; vocational education, $400,000; State Reformatory rotary fund, $300,000; adjutant general, SBOO,OOO, and miscellaneous appportlonments, $9,500,000. Several State officials have asked Bowman for copies of the chart because of its value in analyzing public finances.
