TAKE INFORMATION MAN FOR PROPHET / * Richter Tells ’Em When He Knows and Advises ’Em When He Doearvi.
Talk about answering a. million questions! J. W. Richter, 621 E. Morris St., has answered 27,200,000 of them In the last twenty years. He's the head man at the information window in the Union Station. He does nothing but answer questions eight hours a. day. They average 700 an hour. It takes the patience of a Job and the wisdom of Socrates to run an information bureau in a railroad station. But Richter, after a score of years, still is smiling. The usual question, of course, is: "What lime does the train leave for So and So?" "That will be asked ninety-nine times to one of any other kind of quetslons," said Richter. “However, there have been times when people ask strange things. "One time a young lady came rushing up to the window. ‘"Could you tell me where the remains of Christopher Columbus have their final resting place?’ she inquired breathlessly. “‘I don’t know, lady. You could probably find out at the public library,’ I told her. " ‘Well, you see, we have this question up in our debating society, and T want to be fortified with the facts. Good day, sir!’ and away she went. - ’ FI very now and then some easterner wants to know if there are many Indians and buffalos around Indianapolis. Rome of them are joking, but some are not, Richter sa^d. "Could you tell me, did the South-
Deer Creek Lure to Fisher Deep Waters of Carroll County Stream Are Popular.
Bearing the reputation of housing a big fish every foot, Deer Creek, in Carroll County, in years past has proved itself more than a transient lure to the peregrinatory angler. Deep and still, Its waters seldom stirred except by ths darts of hungry bass in quest of food, the stream is ideal in Its charm. From its mouth at the Wabash River south of Delphi to its source in Cass County, the stream follows a winding course through bramble and wood, canyon and del!. The usual run of Indiana fish are found between its banks, but they invariably are just a trifle larger than can be found elsewhere. One of the choice spots In Deer Creek can be reached from Indianapolis by automobile in two hours. Follow State Rd. 6 to Lebanon, and 44 to Rossville. From Rossvllle take one of the county roads directly north to Deer Creek. Os interest to the week-end angler is information from the State conservation department that game wardens have been instructed not to arrest persons for fishing on Sundays. Reports have been current the department had ordered arrest of Sunday fishers because of an interpretation of an old “blue law.” “But he sure you have your fishing license,” the departments warns.

ern arrive in Cincinnati this morning on time?” was another question asked Richter by a lady. " ‘I couldn’t say, lady, it usually does,’ I told her,” said the information head. "T wonder if there is any way I could get in touch with the conductor on the Southern train. I wonder if he saw anything of my daughter, May. She was coming from Oneida, Tenn.” "Well, I couldn't say, lady.’’ Another time a young man hurried up. and inquired how long it would take a letter to get to Parker, Ariz. Three days, he was told. "I guess I better send a telegram.” he said. "We got twin boys at our house, and I don’t want to keep the news from the folks three days," was his remark.

WAVE LENGTHS SCARCE Hcarst Chain May Ik Cnahle to Obtain Assignment. Bit Time* Svrcial WASHINGTON, April 17.—Promoters of the William Randolph Hearst scheme for erecting a chain of broadcasting stations throughout the country have been warned by the Department of Commerce that they will do so at the risk of being unable to obtain wave lengths for them. At present every class B wave length already has been assigned and there is a waiting list long enough to occupy all vacancies for some time to come. War pensions now are costing Great Britain about $200,000,000 a year less than in 1920, because of the remarriages of war widows.
