PORK MARKET CONTINUES STEADY

( Local killers and pucker men were taking the majority of hogs. All weights sold at Tuesday's closing price $13.25. Smooth sows sold at a spread of $11(g>11.75 and roughs were quoted at $10.75(0) 11.50. Pigs sold the same bringing slo@l3. Stags sold at $7 @ll‘. Steers were steady despite a heavy run of receipts amounting to 1,700. All prices held at Tuesday’s closing level. Female stock took a downward turn and wet e twenty-five cents lower. Prime corn fed steers weighing from 1,300 pounds up sold at $ 10.50@ 11 and good to choice of the same weight brought $9.50@10. Good to choice steers weighing 1,150 pounds to 1,200 pounds brought slo@ll. Steers weighing from 1.000 pounds to 1,100 pounds of good to choice quality brought $10.50(3)11.25. Prime yearlings brought $10.50@)11.50. K Good to choice cows sold at $6.25 Px'B. Heifers were quoted at $7.75(0) 9.75. Cutters brought s3@4 and canners sold at $2.25@>2.75. Butcher bulls and bologna bulls sold at a spread of [email protected]. Veals took a downward trend today and prices were $1 lower. A heavy run of receipts was quoted as the cause. Choice veals sold at sl2 with the bulk of business being transacted at $10.50@11. Medium calves brought sß@>9 and common thin calves sold at ss@7. Sheep and lamb prices held steady on a heavy run of 250 receipts. Since the beginning of the year 12,687,810 cars have been loaded, against *12,450,000 in the corresponding period last year. This evidence of the remarkable volume of domestic business coupled with the March foriogn trade figures which showed our foreign surplus in nine months to April 1 was onetenth larger year ago and three times larger than the preced ing year imparted a strong tone to stocks at the opening today. Motor shares continued to display extraordinary buoyancy. Hudson scored to a further record high at 54 up more than 6 points from yesterday's low, while Maxwell B achieved record levels at 72 up six points from yesterday’s low.
