STUDENT TAKES OWN LIFE WHEN HEALTHBREAKS Fires Bullet Into Head at Sunrise After All-Night Party. Bu United Pregg CHICAGO, April 13.—Robert Preston, handsome 21-year-old student, poised on the dock at the foot of •Madison St., looked deep into the pink and purple glory of a spring sunrise, and then sent a bullet crashing into his head. As planned, the body toppled off into Hake Michigan. Preston’s plan to have hi§" body sink to the bottom failed. Two weights he used were not heavy enough. Diaries found on his body showed he chose a few fleeting moments of joyous living as against a long and torturous fight against the dread disease of diabetis. They give a vivid picture of the tumult of mind, of despair, of the efforts to drown out the knowledge of certainty of death. f Preston committed suicide at sunrise yesterday, after a “last fling,” with a party of friends. Police and the coroner found a note in his rooms, addressed to his parents, announcing the suicide. Search of the body revealed the diaries, wrapped in leather. The letter stated in part: "I hope I may be relieving you of a. burden, for I will be better off where I am than if trying to get along as I am.” Preston attended Northwestern University. He also was a former student of the University of Illinois. Ills father is a wealthy manufacturer of Oak Park, 111. Tie tall, slender, dark-haired youih did not want the diaries read, for on one leaf was the following: “Whoever reads this book I wish would go to hell.” Other notations, showing his bitter philosophy of life, were: "Whisky makes the world go around.” “Why is life given a man whose way is hidden?” “When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang yourself.” “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes.” VALET ADMITS KILLINGDANCER 'She Was Always Teasing Me,’ Says German Youth.
