Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers of America, accompanied by Frank Hughes, a member of the international executive committee, arrived here today to make a personal investigation of condi lions growing out of the strike of 12,000 coal miners. En route here, Lewis stopped off at Halifax for a conference with Premier Armstrong of Nova Scotia. He thus far has refused to make a statement, declaring he la making private Inquiries into the situation. M’COY ENTERS PRISON Former Indianapolis Man Starts n Long Sentence. By Times Special LOS ANGELES. Cal., April 11.— Kid McCoy entered San Quentin penitentiary today to begin a term of three to thirty-eight years. He was charged with slaying Mrs. Teresa Mors, McCoy’s last sweetheart, and with subsequent assaults on customers at the Mors antique shop. "I’ve had my fun and expect to be good from now on," he said. “But Tress killed herself and I still hope to clear myself of that charge.” McCoy r former welterweight champion, lived in Indianapolis several years. His right name is Norman Selby. NEW BUILDERS CODE Commissioner Approves Tentative Draft of New Ordinances Indianapolis builders soon will operate under a more liberal code of regulations, it was indicated today. Francis F. Hamilton, commissioner of buildings, has approved legality arid adequacy of new code by Samuel E. Ashby and William A. Pickens, former city legal advisers, who have been considering the proposed ordinances. Under present regulations, engineering requirements are higher than other large cities, raising costs of construction considerably, it is said. New regulations will be submitted to a committee of three architects before ordinances are drafted for city council, Hamilton said. Hearing at New Albany Hearing on a petition for an injunction against the Loose Leaf Tobacco Warehouse of New Albany, Ind., to prevent it from alleged interfering with contracts held by the Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association of Lexington, Ky., was held before Federal Judge Robert C. Baltzell today. The case was continued until court will he held at New Albany. The association asks $20,000 damages. Sixty Descendants Survive By United Press WORTHINGTON, Ind., April 11.— Sixty direct descendants today survived Mrs. Sarah Hayden, who was 114 years old, according to family records. She died from infirmities. leaving four children, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-two greatgrandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Chess Champ to Play Newell W. Schwab, famous capitalist, and Charles Kettering, president of the General Motors Research Company, of Dayton. Ohio, will speak at a dinner by the Indiana branch of the S' oiety of Automotive Engineers at the Indianapolis Athletic Club, May 29. The occasion will be a celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Introduction of the automobile in commercial use. The Chamber of Commerce will cooperate with the engineering society in carrying out the celebration. Apartment Permit Granted A $35,000 twotory brick residential apartment building will be built at 3505 N. Pennsylvania St.. It was Indicated Friday-when a building permit was granted the WaiterBrooks Realty Company, 130 N. Delaware St., by the city building commissioner. The building Is to be 45 by 61-feet and contain one sevenroom and four four-room apartments. A second similar building may be built on the same lot. It Is said, with the ground between the two landscaped.

McNamara was indicted following grand jury investigation of alleged acts of vandalism committed at the Elks new clubhouse, N. Meridian and St. Clair Sts., under construction last summer. Metal doors and casings were damaged to the extent of SIO,OOO, It was reported. The indictments charge McNamara with threatening, at different times, Ben Staggenberg, an employe of the Niman Transfer Company; William P, Jungclaus, 825 Massachusetts Ave., contractor; William F.- Kellemeyer, employe of P. D. Kennedy engaged in construction work at the new War Memorial Plaza Bldg., and William S. Frye, transfer man. The threats were based on demands that certain persons be discharged and that union Iron workers be employed. It Is alleged.
