AIR MAIL WILL BE TRIED OUT HERE MONDAY Test Plane From New Orleans to Chicago Is Scheduled. The feasibility of establishing an air mall route between New Orleans, La., and Chicago, with Indianapolis as a regular stop will be tried out Monday, according to Postmaster Robert H. Bryson. A test plane, en route from New Orleans to Chicago will stop here, Bryson said. The plane will be in charge of Lieut. Vincent Meloy and Capt. Herbert Fox, both of the 105th Aero Squadron. The trial flight is being fostered by citizens of Nashville, Tenn., headed by Postmaster W. J. Callaghan. Proposed Route The proposed route is from New Orleans to Montgomery, Ala., Birmingham, Ala., Nashville, Tenn., Louisville, Ky., Indianapolis, and Chicago. The route, when established, would probably permit a flying time of about ten hours, but the. trial flight will take longer, Bryson said. The test plane will leave New Orleans at 6 a. m. Monday and is expected to land at the Ft. Harrison flying field in mid-afternoon. A bag of mail will be made up at the Indianaoplis office and dispatched via the plane to Chicago, provided postal authorities at Washington will authorize the shipment, Bryson said. Not Much Saving If the route is established it will not mean a very great saving in time between Indianapolis and Chicago, Bryson said. But it will save considerable time on mail from Indianapolis to New Orleans. Just how much time will be saved cannot be estimated until the schedule is worked out.
