SHOTS AT AUTO MYSTIFY DRIVER Gangsters Suspected in Two Attacks. Why a shot should be fired at his auto and why a brick should be hurled into the auto driven by his eon, today remained a mystery to Thomas George, 306 E. South St. George told police while he and his wife and daughter were driving past Churchman Ave. and Walker St., Wednesday night, a bullet passed through the reur glass of the car. No one was struck. George said as his son Anthony drove past the same place, April 4, at 9 p. m., a brick was hurled into his auto. Police said George told them a private Investigation in the vicinity revealed that this sort of thing has been going on for some time. Anthony George said he saw four young men run after hurling the brick. YOUTH CAUGHT ON ROOF Burglar Suspect Shot in Chase by Nineteen Policemen. Following a chase by nineteen policemen and use of a tire ladder truck, a colored youth was shot by liieut. Joseph Klaiber and captured early today while hiding on the roof of the First Baptist Church. .Vermont and Meridian Sts. At the city hospital, where he was taken with wounds In his left arm and leg, he gave his name as Richard Powell, 18. of 424 Rankin St. Several recent burglaries at the Indiana Democratic Club. 22 E. Vermont St., had caused a watch to he kept. C. Briton and William Riker called police when they saw a man climb a pole to the root of the place. Trail led through the Bobbs-Merrill Company to the church roof. POLICE POLITICS OFF Chief RikliofF Orders Officers to “Keep Out of It." Police Chief Herman F. Rikhoff today said he had little fear that any police officers would actively engage in politics while on duty during his regime. A patrolman was summoned into his office and reprimanded. Rikhoff said, as one of the flagrant violators of the rule, “keep out of politics.” Rikhoff said he did not care how his men voted, or whether they donated to campaign funds, but he wanted them to realize they were not going to work at polities while on duty or to donate under orders from his office.

Couple Married for Fifty Years

Forty-two members of the family of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams, 74 N. Addison St., recently attended an expensive celebration in honor of the golden anniversary of the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Williams moved to Indianapolis a year ago from Wabash, Ind. They were married in Lagro, Ind., April 4. 1875. Mrs. Williams was 3>liss Susan Webb before' her marriage. Their six children, all of whom attended the celebration, are Harry Williams, Anderson, Ind.; Orley Williams, Elkhart, Ind.; Mrs. Mable Spohr, Anderson; D. V. Wil-
llams, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Nellie Mills and Mrs. Georgia Smith, both of Indianapolis. MRS. TELFORD IS DEAD Funeral Services Friday at Home of Mrs. Harry A. Fenton. Mrs. Helen Telford, 71, a resident of Indianapolis for thirty years, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry A. Fenton, 2440 Park Ave. She was a member of Edwin Ray M. E. Church and an active church worker. Funeral services will be held at the home at 2 p. m.. Friday. Burial will be In Crown Hill Cemetery. Besides the laughter, two sons, Charles Telford of East St. Louis, and Dr. Percy Telford of Jamestown, Cal., survive. EX-JUSTICE IMPROVED Judge Hairy Undergoes Operation at Hospital. Ex-Judge Moses B. Hairy of State Supreme Court, was reported as Improved * today following abdomen operation Wednesday at St. Vincent Hospital. Judge Hairy was stricken Wednesday while visiting relative at Hogansrort and was rushed to the hospital in a private ambulance.

EASTER CLOTHES GONE Crawfordsville Store Suffers Large Loss by Burglars. Indianapolis police believe burglars also have caught the "Easter spirit,” following a call from Police Chief Vernon Shields. Crawfordsvllle. According to Shields, robbers took seventy-five spring coats, three hundred spring dresses and five sets of furs from the Adler Brothers Clothing Store, Crawfordaville, Wednesday night.
