NEW DEFENSE IS DINTED IN GIRL'S BAM LIFE Counsel Intimates Someone Else Might Have Shot Mrs, Ellingson, Rij United Preaa BAN FRANCISCO. March 27. Intimations of a "second line of defense’’ for .Dorothy Ellingson, to supplement her plea that she was mentally deranged when her mother was shot to death, injected new interest into the trial of the 16-year-old queen of the cases today. The defense, in questioning prospective jurors yesterday Indicated that evidence might be introduced to show that Dorothy herself did not fire the shot that killed her mother. "There is no proof that any one can see beyond the alleged confession of this undoubtedly unbalanced girl that she killed her mother,” the defense attorneys declared today, elaborating on their intimations. “State Must Prove” “Ths State will at least be forced to prove that she fired the shot—and there are no witnesses. "The ‘confession’ cannot be used. “On the other hand there are circumstances which might tend to show Dorothy did not do the killing.” There was considerable doubt today as to Just what turn the case might take as a result of Dorothy’s fifth and sixth collapses since the trial opened, which took place yesterday. Once she fainted in her ohalr and onoe again later in the afternoon she dropped unconscious into the arms of two policemen. It required ten minutes to revive her. “She Can’t Stand It? “She can’t stand It,” her brother Earl Ellingson protested. "They’ve broken her. It isn’t Dorothy anymore.” The court, however, ruled that the trial must go on. Elaborate preparations to care for Dorothy have been made. A physician has been assigned to attend

Byrkit is in charge, and the Ishkoodah group of Camp Fire Girls will iMsher. * Muncie Man Draws Fine Court Asher, 29, of Muncie, Ind., was fined $1 and costs today on charges of carrying concealed weapons. Patrolman Welch testified in city court that he saw Asher alight from a taxi at North and West Sts., and get into his own car parked there. Welch said he searched him and found the gun in his pocket. Man Attack*, Woman A young colored man, seen about the neighborhood of New St. and White River Thursday night, climaxed his prowling with an attack on Miss Jewel Middleton, 24, of 216 Hiawatha St. She was injured about the head, police say. No trace of the man could be found. Petition for Charter Fourth Estates Club at Butler University has prepared a formel petition for a charter of Sigma Delta Chi, national journalistic fraternity, according to Thomaa F. Smith, president. The petition will be mailed to the chapters.
