Air Instruction Surpasses Bv X F.A Service 1 AKI.ANI>, Cal., March 19.—Eight months of lnI Htruetion by radio in such subjects as penmanship .and drawing find radio a better teacher than personal contact. This conclusion is made by Dr. Virgil E. Dickson, head of the department of research and guidance in the Oakland public schools, who has been directing radio lessons through station KGO here. According to Dickson, drawing when taught by radio has shown greater originality on the part of the pupil thun when taught by tact. To develop this method of teaching, Dickson has started on a plan to develop a special class of radio teachers.

LEARNS WIFE’S HEALTH Reports on Condition Received By Amateurs Through Air. M. O. Davis of La Junta, Colo., has received frequent bulletins by amateur radio reporting the condition of his wife who is in Rochester, Minn., recovering from a serious operation. Carl Frank at Rochester sends the messages and Davis receives them.

Realty dealers are having a hard time selling some of their property to radio fans. Prospects insist on testing out each location for the quality of reception they might expect there. Asa result several houses in Sacramento and its vicinity have become virtual white elephants, because radio fans have discovered reception was poor at these points. Other California cities also report the same difficulty. It is due to the existence of "dead spots” within which certain popular broadcasting stations can’t be heard. The value of a house located in a "dead spot” drops from 30 to 50 per cent, when this discovery is made it is said. Schwab in the Game Charles Schwab, steel magnate, has ambitions to become a radio magnate. He's the dominant figure hv the Splitdorf Bethlehem Electric Company, in the manufacture of five-tube sets.
