Bv XEj Service rrrp ashington, March 12. y\/ Radio amateurs of the coun_LU try are being called upon to enlist in a naval radio reserve force. •Captain Ridley McLean, director cf naval communications, has asked Hiram Percy Maxim, president of the American Radio Relay League, to help form such a reserve. Asa result, Maxim has sent out a call to all amateur niembeis of his organization. The idea back of this reserve is the establishment of a force of young radio operators who could be called upon at a moment’s notice for assistance in case of emergency. Coming of any war would find Uncle Sam fully prepared so far as radio is concerned. Amateurs may merely file their willingness to be listed on the reserve list and receive a course of instruction on naval radio operation from the director of naval communications. Or they may add. In their application, that they are willing to participate actively in more direct instruction. In that case, amateurs may travel on naval ships and "see the world" for a few weeks, at Unde Rom’s expense, Just to learn more about radio, and become a proficient member of the naval radio reserve.
